App: AT&T Messages

When using a text app, how do I get the notifications from showing with the stock messaging? I get 2 separate notifications.

When using a text app, how do I get the notifications from showing with the stock messaging? I get 2 separate notifications.

  1. Open up the Messaging App
  2. Tap the Menu button to get the menu
  3. In the menu, select "Settings"
  4. Find the Notification Settings (toward the bottom)
  5. Uncheck the Notifications checkbox

I just switched to AT&T from Sprint. I can't believe how terrible the quality of AT&T apps are. I thought I'd try the messaging app for the voice mail, but it started taking over my texting and that is unacceptable. So I disabled the app altogether. Does anyone know if I will suffer any consequences for doing so? Will I still be able to access my voice mail?

I do miss the Sprint voicemail app. I thought it was awful, but at least it fit in with the phone and used the Holo design. :-/

This app blocks the vibration and sound notifications on the phone. One of my big uses is to get notifications for trade setups from my trading computer. No notification, no trade. Not working for me. Need to purge it from my phone and get the notifications back.

I upgraded the OS on my Galaxy S3 (ATT plan) so that it is now running Android 4.1.2 "Jelly Bean", and this AT&T Messages application appears to have auto-installed on my phone. It took over the default "Messaging" and "Phone" apps. The RED numbers no longer showed on those default apps. ALSO, the AT&T Messages app seems to not even have an icon on the phone! Literally, I cannot find an "AT&T Messages" app icon to drag to my home screen! So I went into the "Play Store" and searched for "AT&T Messages", found it, and clicked "Uninstall Updates". Then when the next text message came in it showed up in RED on my "Messages" app. Yay! Also, when the next phone call came in it showed up in RED on the "Phone". I think I have it set to not update... I hope so. Gosh... does AT&T test their apps, or even more importantly have customers test them, before they forcefully install them on phones. This makes me want to root my phone and install the "Cyanogenmod" OS.
