Hey all,

I factory wiped my Nexus 6p, and it seems that most of my apps automatically came back after.... Which is expected. I didn't expect, however, that one of my apps magically kept my login info that wasn't even tied to Google.

It's my thermostat app, and when I clicked on it for the first time, I was already logged in.... I could see if this was linked with my Google login info, but it's completely different....

Interesting...

If you Clear cache and data for that app (and Force stop it for good measure) and then restart it, does it log you in correctly? If so it must be associated with your Google account.

Some apps utilize the feature... But only a select list still. If you look in Google Drive, you can find a list in the settings.

A lot still don't utilize this feature. I did a factory data reset recently and a lot of my apps didn't restore all data.

Google can lead a dev to a feature but they can't make them merge... :)

It's up to the application developers to integrate the new backup APIs into their code, it isn't forced on them. I can't for the life of me figure out why they haven't done so on a large scale. Google gives every app 25MB of 'free' storage in a hidden container inside Google Drive.... storage that doesn't count against anyone's storage allotment. Google handles the backup and the restore... not sure what the issue is.
