How to download sms from backup to Moto Z3 Play after factory restore

Hi, I had Google backup enabled on my moto Z3 Play. After I did factory reset , things like SMS and calls history were not restored back to the phone. Instead I now see two phones backed up on my Google one backup tab: the one before reset and the one after. The one before reset lists all backups I need (sms, call history), but I see no ways of restoring it to the phone (There is only an option to delete the backup but not to restore it). Maybe it's more related to Google than Android, but I still hope maybe someone had similar experience.

Do you recall seeing a screen during the setup wizard asking if you wanted to restore the phone, and if so, from which backup?

I don't think I saw an option to restore, maybe because I was not getting a confirmation code and had to use an alternative method to confirm myself. The only thing that was restored was my contacts. Anyway, the second backup appeared only after I logged in after restore and enabled backup. Someone elsewhere suggested to deleted the second backup and to try resetting again, but I am afraid G may not recognize the original backup as relevant and I may loose even the contacts. So, I guess, it is what it is.

Sorry, this is always tricky to help with, since I can't test things easily myself. In addition, your phone is older, so I'm not sure how robust the SMS backup is on the older Android version. Newer versions allow you to sync your messages more easily to your Google account, such that you can sign into your Google Account in the Google Messages app, and your messages will appear there.

Have you tried talking to your carrier to see if there's any other way to restore your messages?
