App Drawer Layout .... Why did Samsung remove list view?

I currently have an S3 and am waiting for my new S5 replacement to arrive. In the meantime I've done some research and found the new S5 does not offer the alphabetical 'list view' in the app drawer like my S3 (I don't want ICONS!). I contacted Samsung and was told SAMSUNG removed the feature, that the standard android system still has the list view.

I do not want to root the phone...is there any way to put that feature back into the phone without changing a lot of everything else? The icons make it very difficult to scroll through and get to the apps I want. I have seen the issue discussed online but no solutions posted other than rooting the phone. I use the feature frequently on my S3 and am seriously considering a different phone if I can't find any way around this missing feature. Any help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Your fastest solution would be to use a 3rd party launcher that supports list view in the app drawer. Maybe Nova does. I use Themer, and while it's awesome, it doesn't do list view in their app drawer.

Hi, I have an S3 and actually find the grid view easier and quicker to use than list view. I'm waiting for the S6 as a replacement if they can sort out the Snapdragon 810 problems that have been reported on.

The S6? With reported problems? Well you must be Samsung's CEO's favorite son if you are waiting for an unreleased, unannounced, unconfirmed, unfinished product with a list of 'reported problems' already :P

Oh if there are already problems with a phone that isn't even in existence.. DO NOT BUY IT! lol

Soon as they sort out the Note 6 problems, Ima get one!

I also was considering whether to wait for the S6 but my S3 won't hold a charge and I wasn't sure how reliable the new phone would be...at least the 5 has been out a while.

Thanks for all the input!! I'm glad to know there might be a solution out there, however, I've never used a 3rd party launcher and don't know anything about them. Do they affect the phone operation (slow down), how much do they change the configuration of the phone setup, how difficult are they to configure (sorry for all the questions - this is a whole new thing for me)? Do you know of any place I can get some basic information about Nova, what it does, and how it operates - more indepth than the playstore? Also - in my initial search for a solution, I came across recomendations for Yahoo Aviate and Go Launcher Ex....any thoughts on these?

One last question (at least for now), I got the Galaxy S5 because I liked my S3. I didn't really explore other options of Android phones...would it be better to look at other phones (although my 5 arrived this afternoon and I would have to return it!)? Any thoughts?

Use the phone for a week. If you don't like it find another but you'll most likely be beating your head against the wall trying to figure out the best.. There are a lot of different Android phones out there..

In addition to the phone I use mine for the camera and since it has one of the best phones in the Android lineup the deciding factor for me was a no-brainer....

Decide what extra option you want in a smartphone and go from there...
