App for no signal

Hey all is there a app or setting to help save the battery when I have bad reception. I notices.at my brother in laws.house my battery was draining fast.

But with airplane mode I won't be able to receive phone calls. I'm mainly looking for something that will keep the phone on edge. So the inspire won't constantly try to search for 3g

There is some way to get that to happen. I can't remember the button combo but is something like #*#*4636*#*# that is probably wrong. Hopefully someone else will chime in and correct me. Or you could search xda for it.

Then go to phone information and down towards the bottom there is a pull down menu for preferred network type. But I am not sure which one to select.

I've tried this and setting to gsm only. The phone still switches back and forth between edge and hspa.

As far as i can tell the only way to enable edge only is to root the phone. The stock network settings menu is disabled by our good friends at ATT.

Is there an option for 3g on that pulldown menu? If I use it will it still charge as data...
