App to backup app data...

Hi all. I love playing my gameboy color emulator and am about half way through pokemon crystal again. I want to be able to save the entire app, including the app data. My last emulator, citra, was bricked by the developer and I lost my saved game. I have an .apk extractor app that I saved THIS emulator with, but it doesn't save the game data. I really don't want to lose my progress again. Is there a reliable root free app that will work on OS10 that will let me save the entire app/app data to my sd card so I don't lose my game again in case a future update bricks this app too (same developer, new version of the app, no feature to save game...😭) or something happens to my phone? I've seen a few in the app store, but the reviews say that they don't save the data.

Aside from TWRP or Orange Fox to back up all of user space, if you root the phone you can use Titanium Backup. But since apps normally store their data in their own folders, which you don't have access to, you can't do it unrooted.

Is there a safe way to root my phone without bricking it? It is an expensive investment that I can't replace. Also I read if you root it, certain apps like banking apps won't even work anymore.

If you use the phone as a daily DONT root, especially if you start messing with changing things .
