Approximate three year old HTC Droid DNA will not connect to PC?

[AC Question]

approximate three year old HTC droid dna will not connect to PC

just got new phone (edge+) and need to download purchased books saved on the droid dna to PC to then transfer to the new phone

the dna will not connect - tested connections with the new phone and new phone will connect just fine

also downloaded the htc sync manager without any connection (lack of) changes

any suggestions?

Welcome to Android Central! When you connect via USB, do you see a USB notification in the status bar? If so, swipe down and tap it, and make sure it's connected either as MTP or USB Mass Storage.

If you don't see the notification, try a different USB cable.

From where did you purchase the books? Depending on where, it might not be possible to move the books around freely like that.
