Apps do not update automatically

I have my essential phone set to update apps automatically over WiFi. Whenever I check on my apps, there are always some that need to be updated. Am I missing a setting somewhere? Thanks, P

My two Androids - a Moto G5S Plus and Honor 7X - are set to receive app updates automatically. It only happens when they're plugged in and connected to WiFi, though.

Bumping this because my Aristo does the same. Will update apps automatically only when plugged in. I see no options in power settings. Power saving is not enabled. Could it be my carrier? Otherwise, it looks like an Android thing.....
