Must need programs. I have been using my Incredible for almost a year now. Here are two program I recommend any Android user:

3G Watchdog:
this little gem monitors your data usage far better than Verizon does IMO. It keeps track of usage according to your inputted billing cycle. Tracks Recieved and Sent usage to include total. Gives you an idea how much you will based on current usage for the month. Saves your usage over last 12 months to see you highs and lows. You can even export the data into a csv if you want. Instead of logging into Verizon to see you usage which is usually a day behind at times, this is a live monitoring of your usage
Note: It does run all the time

Auto Wi-Fi Enabler:
OMG this program is a beauty. We are all worrie dabout battery issues and this program just help you conserve some of that very battery. What does it do?

I like most people end up using Wi-Fi for data while at home, but while I am out and about or even at work, don't need wifi. Well this program comes to the rescue. It uses cell phone towers to get your approx location and based upon that will turn on or off your wi-fi. So what does that mean?
When I am driving home, and I get withinrange of my wi-fi at home, the program automatically turns on Wi-Fi onthe phone and connects to my home network for data. When leavign in the morning to work, once out of range, it automatically turns off the wi-fi on the phone so it's not using up battery searching for a wi-fi signal. Any other locations you log into on wi-fi will also be monitored and it will turn the wi-fi back on when you reach those locations. This one truly is a gem.. Saves me turning wi-fi on and off all the time.

Tasker is a must have. It allows you to do any and everything with your phone you could ever want to do. It is pretty complicated and not for the faint of heart. I am not even close to smart enough to utilize it to its full potential, but right now have it set up to silence notifications at night and whenever I have a calendar entry with the word meeting in the title. I also have it set to turn GPS on when I start sportstracker or navigation, turn on wifi when I open the browser and then turn off wifi when I exit the browser. Like I said this is just the tip of the iceberg of what it can do.
