Apps not detecting music

I've switched from an iPhone 6 to an Honor 8, and since a lot of my music had iTunes DRM I decided to use Google Play Music to transfer it to my new phone. I uploaded all of the music to Play Music on my PC, and then downloaded it all onto my phone's SD card through the Play Music app. But other than the Play Music app, no other apps have been able to see the music. I've tried various stock and third party apps that do things with music, but the only music they can find is the 5 free sample songs that came with the phone. I can see that the expected amount of storage space has been taken up on the SD card, but I can't actually view the files through the phone or when connected to PC. Oddly, the storage manager on the phone does show that there is 16GB of audio files even though stock apps aren't seeing them. The HiSuite phone management program isn't showing any music, either. Is Google Play Music hiding my songs from other apps?

I have the onboard memory set as the primary storage location because I only wanted to use the SD card for music; could that be the problem? But some apps do specifically say they're searching the SD card for music and still find nothing...

Yeah, that's the way Play Music works - only it has access to files downloaded through it, regardless of where they came from or ownership.

Your non-DRM stuff is easy - just copy it directly to your SD card without passing through Google Play. For the DRM stuff, I don't have an answer. Didn't Apple drop all that DRM crap?

I haven't purchased anything on iTunes since they dropped DRM, and getting DRM-free versions of my previous purchases requires an iTunes Match subscription.

Thanks for your help, though! I didn't realize Play Music would lock my files
