Apps not showing up in (universal) Search

I keep my homescreen relatively clean and just use the search bar to bring up apps. Ever since the last Google Search update, I lost that ability. Even if I click "Phone" on the bottom to tell it to search my phone, I get nothing. I've tried this with different apps, so it's not just one. Oddly, I can still launch apps through search if I use the voice search to "Launch Twitter." I checked the play store and other people have had this problem, but it seems to be random.

I have a Nexus 4 bought directly from the play store and I have never rooted my phone. Help?

Try to clear the app data for Google Search.
Then go to "Google Search/Settings/Phone search/" to make sure "Apps" is toggled on.

I think this goes back to the Galaxy Nexus. Apple sued Samsung and Google over Universal Search and won, in order to sell the Gnex again in the US Google removed the offending code from Android. They could have put it back in since then for the Nexus 4 and other Nexus Devices as far as I know though.

Tried that. Didn't work, but, in app data I didn't realize it allowed me to go back to the previous version. When i go back to the previous version, app search works again, so it has to be some random bug in the update, or google did it willingly for the Nexus.

it works for me with the latest version. open Google now-->menu-->settings-->Phone search--> check Apps

if it still doesnt work post a screenshot searching a system app

Here are screen shots searching for Twitter from the previous version and the new version. It's peculiar that the Apps icon changed in the updated version - it seems empty or "grayed out." Can you confirm that is what it looks like on your phone? Also, Twitter shows up under People just because I have the number for Twitter in my phone.

I'm having the same problem on my note 2. Happened a few days ago. Apps not showing up in search.

Edit: Uninstalling and reinstalling the search app fixed the problem.
