Android Central Question

The apps installed on my phone (Moto e) and stored on my SD card (SanDisk) suddenly stopped working. I can still view that they installed, but trying to open them causes an error message that "X stopped working". Sometimes that message even pops up for apps I wasn't even trying to use.

I am able to move the apps from the SD card back onto my phone's internal storage and then they work fine, but I cannot then move then back onto the SD card.

To be clear, this SD card had been working fine for over a year, this is not a "how do you use a SD card" question. I have tried force stopping, cache clearing, restarting the phone, and removing the SD card.

And thus one of the reasons we don't suggest (and Google isn't keen on supporting) apps on SD cards. They're simply too slow and the setup works unreliably. Is it possible your phone received an OS update that has removed the feature, but is still allowing you to move the apps back to internal storage?

Welcome to Android Central! Perhaps the card has become corrupt in some way as well. Can you try a different card?

Try removing the SD card, clean the contacts (pencil eraser works, or alcohol), reformat and reinstall. Also give a puff of wind into the slot, maybe dust.
