Apps on the lockscreen

Either Samsung has bad design sense and/or maybe their support is lacking.

I am trying to add apps to my lock screen. When I check "Favorite Apps or Camera" under LockScreen, it is grayed out and not accessible.

I called support and they say that I need to remove the PIN, set up for no security (Swipe only), and then add apps to the lock screen. What kind of lock screen is one where you cannot lock it?

Is there something I am missing or is this another faulty design?

The S4 is a nice phone, but there is either bad logic or bad system support.

Thanks for any guidance,
Summest.

I own an S3, and they may have changed it, but you can select the With Swype unlock and that will allow you to Swype, then enter your PIN, all the while having the apps as an option on the Swype screen..

The thread is more than 6 months old, but here is my experience, I do not lock the phone, while at the house, with a PIN, and was able to add Apps to the lockscreen, WatchON and the Camera.
My phone received the update to Android 4.3 some weeks ago, since then I cannot swipe the lock screen right to left to reveal the camera, it just unlocks it, and sometimes I have the WatchON remote on the lock screen, sometimes not.
Allegedly the 4.4 update will come thru end of February or sometime in March. There is an early release available but I just got the phone over New Year's and don;t want to try any unofficial things yet.

Settings> my device> lock screen > lock screen widgets

Should be able to get what you need there
