Apps that use data?

So I've never came close to using my data (1 gb) for the month. Got my V10 almost a week ago and now I'm maxed out with 10 days left. So my question what apps that Verizon has installed on this phone that will eat up data that I can disable or uninstall? (my usage hasn't changed and wifi connected at home) And I also haven't installed all my apps from my previous phone and don't stream videos.

How do you even do that? I would never survive.

I've had this plan for 2 1/2 yrs. For my needs it works. I typically use around .5 gb / month. I don't have the little chart like I did before so I could track it so I need to check where that went. I did DL MM the other day and when it was finished I noticed that the wifi wasn't connected. When I'm looking at the % it shows web and apps @ 58 % and when it breaks down the when it shows times I wasn't on the phone (like in the middle of the night)

Update, Verizon is having a glitch in their system regarding the data info. So if you are seeing higher than normal usage showing up call them and you'll get a ticket number. I was told that the issue should be fixed by July 15th.

I have the following bloat disabled to stop battery consumption, but it also helps by stopping cell data usage too.
Amazon
Amazon kindle
Amazon music
Android pay
Verizon Cloud
go90
google play movies & TV
google play music
Hangouts
Music
NFL mobile
Slacker radio
thinkfree viewer

Go to your mobile data usage screen, and one by one restrict all apps that do not need cellular data for your usage. Youtube is a good example for me where I do not allow cellular data usage, but wifi is wide open.

Note also that Verizon uses your data allotment to ping towers. Its not a lot, but it is something. So if you are like me and live in an area with weak cellular coverage your cell radio will consume data and battery just trying to acquire tower signals. I turn off my cellular data when I am at home.... unless I need to turn it on for text messaging or voice mail downloads.

There's a global setting to ONLY allow app updates over wifi... you'll definitely want to do that.

Thank for the ideas on the bloat to disable. After the MM update I noticed a few new items to be added to the list

Thats a good point... if you are on LP and updating to MM, it will re-activate all carrier bloat. So after a MM update you will need to go in and deactivate and restrict to meet your needs.

log into your my verizon portal and monitor your cell data usage. If you see ~hourly data blips happening around the clock (24/7), thats your radio pinging towers in a weak coverage area.

There's also a Verizon shared data usage widget that I use a lot as a quick glance usage monitor. Its pretty self explanatory, and I find it useful.

What verizon bloatware is safe to disable?
Also is com.ebay.carrier safe to uninstall ?

Get package disabler and disable all bloat ware

You shouldn't need to do that. Any 3rd party app that performs basic Android OS functions should be used with caution. Things like flashlights, memory booster, RAM manager, battery boosters...etc (IMHO of course)

Isn't package disabler only for Samsung devices? It goes pretty deep into some functional aspects of the device, without rooting... pretty cool.

About a year ago I used a package disabler type of app on my Sony Xperia Z3. I forget specifically which app, but it was highly recommended on another forum (I think howard forums). It definitely was cool being able to deep-edit things, but I deactivated some critical-to-function processes and the phone became unstable. I did a factory reset and all was fine. So you have to be careful and know what you're doing. For my V10, I am OK with just using application manager.

What about the Verizon support and protection.. It scans anytime I Uninstall or update an app. Good or bad? Sorry for the questions this phone is different (in a good way) than my old phone so I'm learning a lot from it! Thanks ☺️

I have never used that feature. I was afraid to deactivate it so its one of the bloats that remains, although I don't use it. I haven't even initialized it yet, so it does not use cell data or battery at all.

Do you store movies on g photos?
I let my phone automatically backup to Google Photos whenever it's charging. But even if you eliminate the data Google Photos that would only be about half my data usage.

No I definitely can understand the overall data usage. I would use that much or more if I could but 14 GB of photos is a lot! Haha.
