I'm a previous iPhone user (just sold it and mailed it out yesterday) and I was recently referred to as an apple "fanboy".
I had no other apple products but this individual decided that I was one because I liked my iPhone.

I told him that Im not stuck to the iPhone I just want to find a better phone thats available and I will easily jump ship. . Those two of my friends have an android (hero and some other clunky god aweful device) and I was only semi impressed with the Hero. I then learned about the EVO and now I have preordered and I pick it up in 2 days.

Now, back to the meaning of my thread title. Ive noticed that a lot of users on here are big apple haters...which in a sense is making some of you android users "fanboys". In reality, most iPhone users (that are not teenagers) are not "fanboys" they just know when they have a good product. And face it, the iPhone is a great product. Its been the king for 3 years now.

Im hoping to hell that I love this EVO more than my iPhone, and I think I will. But just because I may love my EVO doesn't mean I will be stuck to it if something better comes out.

If you ever get some free time, head over to everythingicafe.com and you will see some intelligent conversations going on over there (and some not so intelligent) but RARELY do I see iPhone users calling out Android users and hating them.....unfortunately, I see it here all the time.

I hope that phone manufacturers come out with better and more advanced phones every year and I could give a rat's ass which OS it is.

weird, i've been frequenting this forum for a couple of weeks and haven't seen any real i-hating going on...

Yeah, people don't i-hate here as much as they did on the Precentral.
Even PreCentral wasn't that bad...
Though I'm not a big fan of the Iphone... It astounds me that after 3 years nobody wants to change their wallpaper.

A couple ways I look at this new Evo, coming from the Pre...
1. Much better hardware overall
2. Bigger Screen
3. MORE CUSTOMIZATION <-- big thing.

I want my phone to be ... well, mine. When coming to Android, I thought I was coming to a clunky user interface. That was a while ago. Newer updates to Android really help.

I always wanted to customize my phone to have widgets wherever I want them... my own wallpaper that pans as I move across screens.
Not only that, but Android is feature packed..

Coming from the Iphone, I don't know what you did / didn't have... but coming from the Pre:
- Widgets straight to navigation routes, settings, most used apps, clocks, networking sites.... right at the tip of my hands.
- Voice (speech to text) is probably going to be the biggest thing I'll use. I can see myself on the go and needing to text someone... I can use the voice features to send a quick text message.
- Camera options? The Pre just had a camera + video recording... With Android I'll be able to choose contrast and zoom.. and stuff like that. Core apps are much better imo.

Those are just a few... Android seems to have more features out of the box than competitors.

Its not real hating....just general dislike, which I guess isn't a big deal but its a little of the kettle calling the pot black

If anyone feels the need to call me a apple fanboy cause I post on a iPad. Please do so I could care less. :)

As a long time lurker and now someone who posts/reads here. I haven't really seen any iphone bashing/disliking. And i have read more posts here than any other website. This is the reason i come here. There may be 1 or 2 idgets here but, 1 monkey don't stop a show.

Every device needs some die hards, it all breeds more competition and a better end user experience. This year it's an EVO and iphone 4g, who knows what this will breed as far as a better end result in 2011 or 2012.

Personally I've been way too much of a tinkerer along the way to really invest any stock in to Apple, just not my style, but my g/f has an ipod, consider me tolerant. :)

I don't like to think of myself as a hater, but I do find myself persuading my friends and family to avoid apple products. Its not because they make bad stuff, quite the contrary, I think they have great products, but...

I really do not like there business model.
-Closed source software
-Overpriced products
-Overpriced subscription services (At&t/Iphone)

I am also not a android fanboy, I have used Blackberry for years and will only have my first android with the evo. I just choose to advise against apple for these reasons not because I have some bromance going on with another OS.

I loveee phonnnnnnes (Goldmembers voice)

I don't bash on iphones there just not my thing but I do have an itouch and I love some apple products, HOWEVER I love that I am free to change my phones whenever I feel like it as well as customizations especially with particular android phones. I was a crackberry addict to the thirrrrd power and now I could care less about a blackberry:cool: .

Turn about is fair. Go check the iFanboy sites (most tech blogs), and see how condescending and utterly hateful those guys are. The iPhone slowly gets features (say file copy) that has been available on other phones for years, and they squeal with delight, and shout once more how "wonderful" it is to be an iPhone owner, and how much better it is than everything else on the market.

Of course, you have to physically cable your phone, and then iTunes will decide WHAT you can copy to your phone... but they'll scream and yell at how much better it is...

I'd like to punch them all in the Junk. :)

I was pissed off for a while about the closed source software but this has been the reason they have become so popular. Software and hardware issues are much less common because of this.

Think of the iPhone's batter, memory card, apps. They are all controlled by apple and thus run smoother. Am I saying its better? obviouslyu not because I am going to android but it's quite the contrary of what you are saying, I think its a good business model and its why they are succeding

I use Apple at home and work. I actually prefer it. I even worked for the company. Its the ignorance of most iphone users that gets to me. You can also argue the fact that there apple loyalist and fanboys. I consider myself a loyalist meaning that i was on Apple products pre iphone.

The iphone brought in the Windows users and there attitude. When i worked at apple we hated to help windows users with iphones and ipods they had a different attitude. SInce most iphone users are windows users they ruined it and stained the apple karma.

Now apple has changed the way they approach things which was not the case pre-iphone.

Google is coming in with the same attitude apple had pre-iphone. Open source. This is why i can not help but get behind the google wave. Reminds me of Apple.

Thats my cents

I think they became so successful because of there products, the ipod and iphone were groundbreaking when they were first released which is why so many people purchased them.

I think they would of had the same following even if they had opened up there software and allowed multiple carriers to carry there phone. I think the quality of there products would have been the same. As with any OS, if you decided to use 3rd party software its at your own risk, and apple could of still released "official" software.

They may not of made as much money as they did while they were on top (i.e. exclusive at&t contract, exclusive software rights, exclusive music download rights). But other manufacturers are now making products as good if not better with better services. There premium prices are just no longer justified by there products. If they would of had a more consumer friendly business model from the start I think they would have much better customer retention now that the playing field has been leveled. I think they will continue to drop in market share for awhile unless they manage to make another technological breakthrough *or open up there business model*.
