It will all depend on you, best thing to do is try them out and see if you think you can use them.

I only use backup assistant (which is now cloud, I believe) and even then it's only for contacts. Files and photos and etc I backup via Google Drive.
I also use "My Verizon" once in a while to check my bill or to check the data on the other phones on my plan.

The only one I use is the My Verizon data meter widget so that I can quickly see how much data is being used. Also like steve_ma said, you can view your bill and check other lines.

One that I've always used is the My Verizon widget and app to watch how much data is used and to pay my bill.
Another one is the Vz message app... but I go back and forth between the stock Samsung app, the Vz app and Hangouts
