iPhone SE takes top spot in large US customer satisfaction survey, indicating demand for compact phones

It looks like there's still a lot of smartphone users who prefer one-handed use over large screens, as the compact iPhone SE ousted all other smartphones in the annual American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) survey.

With a score of 87, Apple's budget-friendly handset and its four-inch screen managed to beat second-placed iPhone 7 Plus and Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ by one point. Other Apple and Samsung models fill out the top 20, with scores ranging from 75-85. It is important to note that newer flagships like the Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ and the LG G6 weren't included in the survey, as it was conducted between May 2016 and April 2017.

Are current smartphones too large?

Have you settled on a bigger phone just because smaller options are limited?

I think it's a matter of personal preference, and the physique of the person wielding the device.

For example, when the S8/S8+ launched, I went back and forth between the two, since almost all else was the same between them. But, my aging eyes swayed me toward the larger screen as did the wider keyboard area. Luckily, my hands are big enough to handle the larger devices easily (I last used an iPhone 7 Plus). My pockets are large enough to carry the larger devices as well.

A young lady in my office just picked up the S8 -- she finds it almost too large for her.

I think that for many, the smaller devices are more suitable. Its unfortunate that the device selection in this size range is getting smaller (pun intended).

Yes Ry, they are. There is no reason, as Sony and Apple have proved, that high-spec devices should not be offered in three sizes, S, M and L.

I've posted this before, and I will again.....I can totally understand why people want a hybrid device (I refuse to use the word that combines phone and tablet). It's nice that people can have a choice in the size of their phone. However, I like smaller phones, my most favorite being the Moto X 2013. If someone can release a device that is roughly the same dimensions and screen to body ratio, even by going to a 4.9" screen, I will be like:
