Are some OTA updates carrier-dependant and require a SIM card?

Hey all,

I recently got a Verizon LG G3 about a week ago but haven't put my Verizon Sim card In it yet. It's currently on 5.0.1 (i don't have the specific build handy at the moment).

I read that Verizon recently released an OTA update that fixed some Verizon issues. My phone shows no update available.

Is there a chance that the phone needs the Verizon Sim card in it to see that particular update?

Thanks.

Yes, you must install the Verizon SIM to get the OTA update.

Android since v1.0. Linux since 2001.
