for the Motorola Droid X that can enhance the contact/phone book to be like HTC's?

I miss being able to browse my contacts by group. I have tried a couple of them that are in the market place, but none of them measure up.

In Gmail contacts, you have the option to create groups. Gmail is an excellent email (with Pop3 fetched), calendar and contacts combo - all of which sync instantly whenever any change is made either on the computer or the X.

Essentially, it's all you need in one place. Very user friendly and definitely attached to the X via its Google parentage.

Launcher Pro Plus allows for a contacts widget that matches HTCs. I'm not sure if the overall functionality is the same, though.

But, the contact groups do not show up in the standard Motorola Droid X contact app.

Yes they do. When you open stock contacts in the X, at top is a pull down menu for the groups you've set up in X or on computer. You can even create a group using either X or computer. All synced instantly.

They don't sync with my Gmail contacts...had to recreate the groups on the Droid X. The pull down menu gave me the option to create a new group or add to existing groups. None of the groups that had been created for Gmail Contacts were in the Droid X. (only individual contacts were sync'd to the phone, but not by group designation)

Am I missing something?

im dealing with the same problem.

all of your contacts in gmail are synced to your phone, but if you have them in groups in gmail, they dont show up as groups on the X.

anyone find a solution to this?

Yup......................know fewer people! ;)

What's interesting is when you use other apps that feed from gmail the built groups are available. Just not in the gmail app...weird...
