Are we all being too hard on the G5?

Me too. The s7 felt cheap to me. And the colors were way too saturated.

The argument that the modes will be useless when the 6 comes out is nothing new. How much money is spent on cases, including view cases, battery cases, life proof etc... They are not cheap. Screen protectors, custom skins etc.. So that is really a mute point. Just something to complain about for no reason.

Well these high-end phones are costly. They've shown it can be done. Nothing wrong with wanting perfection at this price point. Didn't know that about the Hi-Fi Plus module. Although not sure how it will work with other devices, maybe USB.

Had a play around with the S7 and S7 Edge today. Wasn't really as excited as I thought I would be. Nice all-round phone but I realised how much I dislike glossy phones and how much I prefer LG's on-screen buttons. Gotten used to using the Notifications button to pull-down the nofications panel instead of reaching for the top of the phone.

Well the audiophile community is a heavy spender, the fiio x7 and LG V10 share similar DAC (ess 9018, they are different though) but both are $699 buys.

With that hifi plus module , can almost feel the premium ,and Bang and Olufsen being perennial overpricer i suspect it to be more than $299.

So yeah you coudnt have great DAC built in without compromising a good price (there tray price are around $65 i believe). Most people wont even notice the difference with flac on a dac vs 320kbps mp3 , why average consumer would ask for it is beyond my comprehension.

Your post was very thoughtfully written; and I agree with everything you've stated. It's unfortunate because I have *a lot* of respect for LG and want them to rock it this year; but I don't think I would buy the G5 - maybe the G4, when my G3 is getting to its two-year mark.

I needn't doubt the camera , but LG has missed out by relying on the SD 820 for power efficiency.

No, in fact s7's camera (low light) gives yellowish images while the g5's one give a great image with accurate colors at night. There is the man that made a demo using the s7 g5 and 2 other phones on youtube, you can go and check that out.

I must admit, that I think I was being too hard on LG. I have stuck with my G2 because I love the size and screen to body, great battery life, and generally still a relatively fast and smooth phone. I was upset when I saw the size of the G5 along with the larger bezels, coupled with a smaller battery. However, after letting time pass and playing with the S7, I still feel like I like LG's lighter, cleaner, and smoother skin. I still feel like Samsung's fingers go too deep into Android, an example is the memory management (Android's memory manager is perfectly fine, no need for a skin to take over this function).

I thought the G5 was not as beautiful looking at first site, however, with more time passing and watching video demos I think the G5 is growing on me. Someone said the phone is not photogenic and looks better in real life and on videos, and I must agree.

Also, the initial fascination with the S7's ip68 blinded me. I find this a very useful feature for my lifestyle, and if I decide to go with the G5, I will miss this feature. That being said, I tend to keep my phone a little longer than the average person so a replaceable battery will balance the inability to get the G5 wet.

I have decided to wait till the G5 is out so I can play with both, read official reviews, then make my decision.

It seems that murmurs of S7 lag/stutter and choppy scrolling are still haunting Samsung. I will be fair and balanced by saying that most people on the forums have not experienced this with their S7s, yet I can help but wonder if Samsung has still not solved this issue. One thing for sure, using LG I have never experienced this, while with my S2 I did. Not sure I am willing to dive in to the S7 till more time has passed and official reviews and the forums will shed more light on this issue.

Important to note that so far the all stutter/choppiness complaints (that's not to say that that I've seen many) are coming from Snapdragon S7 owners, not Exynos S7 owners. It could be Samsung's software does not currently play nice with Qualcomm, but is more optimised for their own in-house CPU architecture.

If that is the case than why use the Snapdragon at all? They would know if one worker better than the other.

Well one possibility is that they wanted to make use of Qualcomm's CDMA-compatible modems.

Alternatively, it's possible that T-Mobile's carrier bloatware is to blame for the poor performance and not Samsung's core software. Another possibility is that it's a vocal minority of users who are experiencing the issues because they're installing troublesome apps that are messing things up in the background.

I have to say, I was pretty underwhelmed at the G5's launch and caught up in the glamour of the s7. But as time passes the G5 is growing on me and I'm more confident with LG having owned a G2 for the last two years and my only complaint was the lack of expandable storage. I have the s7 edge on preorder/upgrade but might take advantage of the 14 cool down period. If the G5 gets a brilliant preorder bundle, with both modules (or for me, at least the b&o DAC) I'd be mightily tempted! I like how with a removable battery the phone could last me years.
