Are WM Today Screen Functions Available on Droid?

I am very close to pulling the trigger on a new phone and need some input on functionality. I have used a Palm 700w for about 5 years. Even with all the WM flaws of the 700w, I find 75% of my daily use of the phone can be accessed directly from the today screen. I turn on the phone and am looking directly at:
  1. Upcoming calendar events
  2. To Do list
  3. Icons for my most frequent contacts--one push and a call is initiated
  4. A search bar where if I start typing, a contact will come up and I can call directly from that screen.
  5. Bluetooth power on/off

Also, many other common programs can be accessed with one hand using the Start button and the d-pad. It isn't pretty, but it is very functional!

How does the Droid mirror these functions? It seems like
there are widgets to mirror calendar/contacts/to-do functions. Which ones are they? Can they all run on the same screen at the same time?

Also, does the Droid sync well with Exchange Server? I know it has to use G-mail as an intermediary, but does this work well for corporate users? Does it sync:
  1. contacts
  2. to do lists
  3. memos
  4. email

My university uses Verizon, so I need a phone that works on Big Red. Honestly, if the HTC HD2 were available, I would probably go that way. Please help me see how the Droid can do what I need!

Thanks so much.

The Droid should be capable of doing most of, if not all of what you're looking for. There are a couple calendar widgets that show upcoming events/appointment. You can also add direct dial icons to one of your screens for speed dial. If you hit the search button and start typing, it will search your contacts, apps, and google. There's also a power widget that lets you control wifi, bluetooth, gps, sync, and screen brightness with one touch.

Exchange works great on the droid. If activesync is set up on your exchange server, it's a breeze. The default mail app works for syncing your contacts, email and calendar. I'm using an app called Touchdown for Exchange ($19.99) and I'd consider it a must have for anyone serious about using exchange. It also has a calendar widget that will show upcoming events. Unlike the default mail app, it allows you to set up an email signature and offers a few additional features.

The Droid can definitely do everything ur looking for. The great thing about Android is theres an app for everything u could possibly ever want. U search thru the app market and find an app to do exactly what u want. U can make ur fone as personal as u want it to be and as unique as u can imagine.

Thanks for the replies! This looks promising.

Does Android sync with exchange ToDo lists and memos?

Edit: Looks like Touchdown will do the ToDo list. What about memos?
