Are you sticking with this launcher?

I like the Pixel Launcher with one Exception.
The search bar at the bottom. I wish there was a way to disable it or modify it. With Google Assistant , one would have thought google would make typing in a search bar less relevant. Having a search bar taking up space on the Screen is pointless.

I use Nova Launcher

Yeah I wish we could at least move the search bar.

Nova after about a week. Missed the swype actions way too much. I can have 6 dock apps and swipe for 6 more all on a clean home screen.

Tap screen to lock is also handy...not to mention the access to the system UI setting...

I set it all up mostly to emulate stock with a few extra benefits and tweeks.

I do miss that the Google feed doesn't go to dark mode in Nova like it does on the stock launcher.

As soon as I saw the Google search widget (that I never use) on the bottom of the Pixel launcher home page, and saw that I couldn't remove it, and the time/temperature widget at the top of the page (that I don't care about), I knew that I'd have to do something so that I could have enough app icons on my home page.

So, I installed the Action launcher first, and didn't like that. Currently on the Nova launcher, and love that I can have just app icons on my home page to easily use the apps I that I use a lot. I've also configured the "dock" area at the bottom of the home page so that it's integrated into the page, not divided. Gives me a nice, minimalist look that I really like.

So I'm very happy with the Nova launcher at this point, and don't see any battery impact for having the app on my phone. Unfortunately, can't get rid of the Pixel launcher, though...seems like a waste to carry it around if I'm not using it. So it goes :-).

I'd still be using the Pixel launcher if I could get rid of the Google search widget, that's the one that's really a waste of space for me. I can live with the date and temperature on my homepage...

I flip back and forth between the stock and Nova on my Pixel 2. They each have their plusses and minuses and it depends how I'm feeling and want to do as to which one I use.

I really like the stock launcher, haven't had to use Nova and don't really want to.

The two things that have always irritated me about the pixel launcher is the search bar that just opens the app taking up a whole row on my screen and not being able to swipe down anywhere on the home screen to expand notifications. That alone is worth not using it to me and it boggles my mind how that still isn't a default in all launchers let alone Google's pixel launcher.

Wasn't there a time we could type directly into it without opening?

I like the clean look. Very nice.

Re: Battery Drain with Nova Launcher

Anyone notice battery drain with Nova launcher?

Yes. I searched for a solution and Nova recommends that you clear the Nova cache, uninstall, then set it up from scratch rather than restoring a previous backup. I did this - doesn't take too long - then did a resh backup. The memory drain has gone. It's showing 2% battery usage in 9 hours. Before it was several times that figure.

Here's my setup. The background still moves.
