Are you using the stock messaging app or third party?

I started out with Hangouts, as that's what I was using with my Nexus 5 and I was pretty happy with it. However, it started having some weird force closes, so I went back to the default app and it's been rock solid.

I haven't had any reason not to use the stock app. However, it's strange that it doesn't show smileys. My stock One from 2 years ago shows them...

Hangouts here too. It has been working well. I have tried all the have been mentioned in this thread feel like hangouts gives me the best experience

I use Hangouts. Ever since the update 3 weeks ago that fixed the MMS issue, it has become my preferred messaging client.

Hangouts for me. I used to be a big fan of Handcent but the way Android has evolved IMO there really is no need for third party apps anymore. All these third party apps are fluff and nothing more. The stock app is pretty nice but Hangouts does what it has to do pretty good. I really don't consider Hangouts a third party messaging app since it's part of Android.

SMS pro allows complete customization all the way down to designing your own background wallpaper, custom text tones for individuals, etc

I'm using stock app and have issues sometimes receiving picture messages, even from other S5's. Does anyone know if using a third party messaging system would fix that? I either get a weird error message or a gray box with an orange triangle that won't download.

I'm having the same issue mine is att but I'm using on T-Mobile. I've tried using 4 different sms apps apps and none of those fixed it.
