Artifacts on screen issue?

I got this phone as a replacement for 3 Droid Inc 4G phones that all had build quality issues. Well, I got the RAZR M and now this is having weird issues.
The most annoying is artifacts on the screen, mostly up top at the notification bar (see pic). However the artifacts have also appeared in the middle of the screen. I have actually figured out that when "Force 2D GPU rendering" is enabled, the artifacts go away. This issue happens both when charging and on battery power.

Other issues - phone reboots itself randomly when charging; PWR + VOL DOWN keys often turn phone off instead of reboot; two times phone has shut itself off and I had to press PWR + VOL DOWN to get it back on (factory menu). I think I got another wonky phone. Ugh. I swear it's all these refurbished ones that Quality Control is missing issues on.

Random info: Phone not rooted, all issues occur whether using stock skin or Apex Launcher and various widgets including circles.

Suggestions? Thoughts? Thanks much.
