There are elements of this phone that I am not the most thrilled about just like so many others. I will miss my fingerprint scanner, I really wanted a phone with front facing speakers, and the leak about the Mint Color being wrong, that hurt the most.
Outside of those elements, the phone is great for a father like myself. I am not a power user. I use my phone to watch a lot of YouTube, I love RedditisFun, I play a game for a few days and then drop it (unless League of Legends mobile is real, then damn I will need this processor over the Pixel 3a XL), and I take a lot of pictures of my daughter. Shoot, I live in Vermont, we have some gorgeous scenery, so yeah there are a lot of pictures there too.
The phone ticks off the elements I need for a good phone. It will last at least 3 years (like my OG XL, bless its soul), it will receive updates and getting access to early beta is a fun nerd ego thing to brag about, the screen will be great for watching YouTube, the refresh rate will be great for some gaming and esp browsing Reddit, and the camera!
I thought about leaving the Pixel line last year after the let down of the 3 series but I was with my daughter for our first Christmas together. I snapped this perfect, to me, shot of her looking up at Santa and it's one of my favorite all time photos. I know I was able to get such a great picture in part due to the amazing phone. Yeah, having an amazing camera is a major pull for this phone.
Also, Verizon does not support much else, and I HATE One UI and NovaLauncher feels odd at times.
