We got them to release it for the Phoenix, lets see if we can get them to do it for the Thrive as well.

Open Source Detail

Not sure if we really need them to, but it can't hurt! :D

Well, lg responded anyways...

Dear Travis Savant

Thank you for your interest about our mobile phone.

“We received your request on LG Open Source Code Distribution site(Open Source Main).
This site is just for providing source codes of FOSS(Free and Open Source Software) we have used in our product.”

Now we are preparing for the source packaging you requested.
Please wait for more times.

We hope this information will help you.

Thank you.
Sincerely yours,

I am new to the forum so please excuse my ignorance. But can someone explain why they won't release the 2.3 update for the LG Thrive? My phone isn't rooted so I really want the stock update.

I too am ignorant in these matters. I need to get gingerbread on my non-rooted phone. I called LG and asked if I could update the Thrive using the Phoneix method and they said NO!

Does anyone has any suggestions or advice to help us?

There is no need to update the thrive the guy working on the kernel joban said it will work on both phoenix and thrive. Just wait until he has it finished

But that's my problem. In order to use the kernel he is working on I will have to be rooted right?

The answer to this is both yes and no. You need to have CWM installed which is normally installed after rooting however there is a manual method for install it using ADB. Once CWM is installed you can load what ever you like rooted or not.

I really didn't want to have to do anything that required or was related to rooting. Guess I will have to. Thanks everyone for help.
