Ask vzw for early upgrade to Galaxy Nexus

I wouldn't let gorilla glass be a deal breaker. It's just a nice little buzzword that makes people feel all warm and fuzzy but that's it. My OG Droid lost a battle with the driveway and had a random hairline scratch on the Fascinate I had (no drops and kept in a holster). So while Gorilla Glass may be stronger, it's certainly not impervious to damage.

I agree with you, but with gorilla glass your phone is more likely to survive a typical "hip" fall distance fall which is common (when your shirt gets caught in the holster and you pull it out....and plop...there goes the phone....I speak from experience...LOLOL). If I am not mistaken the original DROID's had Gorilla Glass and I dropped mine many times and never a crack or scratch.

P.S. I use a product when I play guitar called "Gorilla Snot" to help grip the guitar pick....LOLOL

Simple solution to not breaking your phone... don't ever drop it!!! Seriously! :) Some would call me lucky as I've NEVER dropped a cell phone ever, even going back to ol' feature (dumb) phones. But I don't consider it luck as I do everything in my power to avoid even the slighest possibility of dropping anything I consider valuable! I look at it as, "An ounce of prevention..." :)

As to the OP's topic, it certainly couldn't hurt to ask for an early upgrade. The worst they could say is no. Although, I don't agree that it would make much difference if a lot of "early adopter's" request it (regardless of medium, ex. Twitter, phone, in person, etc.) as each person's situation with Verizon is different. What I think is key though, is if at all possible put yourself in the driver's seat to where you don't need to ask for an early upgrade and can pull the trigger on whatever you so choose when the situation arises. :)

I'm probably going to keep my Thunderbolt and sell my spare Thunderbolt (BNIB) to get the Nexus. :)

Having a ton of people beg for early upgrades is not going to do much. One or two people might get lucky by having gotten in touch with a really nice rep. But they are not going to start throwing around exceptions for a device that is that high in demand because they know that they will sell them regardless.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I could have sworn the Thunderbolt has Gorilla Glass. It's on their list of phones that feature it on their website.

The Thunderbolt may be listed as having Gorilla Glass, but mine got several scratches very quickly when new. I was extremely careful to not put it in a pocket with keys or coins and it never was dropped. If that was Gorilla Glass, I would hate to see what normal glass would have done. A screen protector has now prevented further scratches. (with an apology for the diversion from the OPs original question).

Yeah, if mine has GG, it's from a bunk lot of it.
Gorilla Glass is just a trademarked cutsie name. Trademarked by Corning. Bottom line, it's just a glass that is stronger than the earliest smartphones. It's not indestructable. No matter what iPhone'ers would like you to believe.

as much as i would love the the nexus. im perfectly fine with my tbolt. an i dont need to spend money. ces is right around the corner. i signed a 2 year. so 20 month mark is when ill be ready. the phones by then will make an upgrade well worth it.

X2 on all this. I had a couple Evos and while if you were careful you could avoid scratches, they scratch quite easily and shatter just like normal glass. I am VERY disappointed with Android Central's hyping of Gorilla Glass. They make it seem like a big deal... it's not. My Nexus S screen seems to be just as scratch resistant as my evo's was... maybe more so.

In short... buzzword is right.

The OP is right, I was offered an early upgrade to the bionic but I didn't want another motorola phone. Im crossing my fingers as well. btw my upgrade date is in march 2012.

I have a line that is eligible for an upgrade.... so I have plenty of option! MUAHAHAHAH... that and i dont know if i want to wait for the sgs3... my dinc 2 is making me more tha happy though :)

I have a screen protector and it smudges, but it is scratch free. As far as the chips on the case, that is what a cover is for. My complaint is that this phone doesn't have GORILLA glass like the RAZR and I have read many people dropping their phones and the screen cracking. It happened to me (replaced it) and my daughter and a friend's EvO (TBolt for Sprint) and a few other people. I am holding off getting a new phone until next year.....want to see what the iPhone 5 will offer!

The Thunderbolt does have gorilla glass

I am going to try to hold out on upgrading until November 2012 and get the Nexus that comes out then. I will probably root my Thunderbolt to keep it updated. My Xoom should satisfy my need to stay up to date though.

I would love to participate and ask for an early update, with the guarantee to go back to my Thunderbolt if the Nexus has more problems than the Thunderbolt had.

I will email Verizon now, I don't have Twitter or Face Book.

I would love to get the Galaxy Nexus, but I'm not eligible for an upgrade until November 2012.

But I did buy the ThunderBolt on opening day (lined up at the store for it). So maybe I can ask about something like a "flagship phone adopter" discount.

Then again, I'm recently self-employed, which means I'm poor. :P

Yeah we are all in the same boat with not being able to upgrade until nov. 2012. But hear me out, I was able to upgrade early from my Env to my BB, from my BB to my X and from My X to the Bolt. I'll admit I've been spoiled but I'm hoping this train keeps on rolling. Coming from the BB to the X i was sent a special email with my phone number on it, took that into the verizon store and they did it. From my X to the Bolt I was mailed a flyer with my number on it, took that in to the store and they upgraded. So it doesn't hurt letting verizon know you'll spend the money to get a new phone, and then you can just unload your bolt on craigslist. I've got my wife's old Eris in my basement in case anything ever goes wrong with any of my phones, it's the just in case phone.

Samsung blows. Had SGS2 Epic 4G touch - EPic 4G and the Galaxy S 4G all horrible- yeah this will be a google phone it will get google updates fast but it won't get updated by samsung if something is wrong with their firmware or other parts of the phone. Seems they make nice phones but with many problems. Too much a headache samsuck is, that is why I left sprint and came to Verizon, hopefully the Razr or HTC Rezound (Vigor) can kick some ass. AGAIN screw Samsung:mad:

I'm good with my TB...especially now that I bought one online for my wife to replace her incredible.

I don't use covers or screen protectors, it takes away from the sensitivity of the screen and covers make phones more bulky. Companies need to make phones durable enough for everyday use, and that's how my X was. When I sold it after months of use it still looked fairly new.

My brother like me has a Droid Incredible. After a year and many replacements early on mine is still going strong. His always breaks because he kept it naked and the screen kept cracking.
They allowed him to get an iphone as a replacement.

Same with a friend with a Droid 2. They gave him an iphone.
