Assigning ONE Notification to (All) Text Messages and Nothing Else

Is there a way to assign a notification sound to text messages without that same sound being assigned to other notifications? I'm not talking about assigning a sound to an individual's texts, just text in general. I can't figure out how to do it. ALL notifications sound the same. Surely it can be done. It was possible with my S7. I've tried with the phone's default sounds and Zedge.

Yep, go into the notification section in the messaging app and find new messages. There you'll be able to assign a sound.

This is why I've been an advocate of AC listing a person's carrier under their avatar. I'm sorry I didn't mention that I'm on Verizon AND that I'm using Messages+. Both make a difference. I don't have that option. I can go to an individual and change their notification sound but I'd just like to have one sound for ALL text messages that is different than an email notification or any other notification. I was able to do this with my S7.

Actually no, being on Verizon does not make a difference. The messages setting screen he pictured is exactly the same on Verizon. Using a messaging app other than the default app certainly makes a difference though, and is definately worth mentioning. Anyway, glad you found it.
