Google Messages repeat notification problem

Like many in was forced from Message+ and migrated to Google Messages. It works OK but I have a notification issue I can't resolve. I have managed to get my preferred message notification sound as well as personalized notifications set up as I use several specific to certain contacts. My problem is with repeating the notification. I like a setup to notify me 3 times of a message in case I miss one. All my notifications come in fine the first time but any subsequent notifications only use the general system notification sound and it repeats endlessly. I don't get the messages sound whether it's a general message sound or a personalized sound I just get the general system notification. I have it set to repeat 3 times but the repeat never ends, it just goes off over and over. Any similar problems or suggestions?

I'm on a Samsung Galaxy S24 ultra with Verizon.

You may want to try a 3rd party app like BuzzKill, which is highly recommended by people I trust. It's $3.99, but if you don't end up liking it and it's beyond the Play Store refund window, the developer says in the app page info that he'll do the refund if you contact him directly.

That's the problem. The app wasn't great but it generally work. Google messages works OK too just can figure out the notification issue.

Go to settings>notifications>advanced settings>repeat notifications alert choose Google messages and set it up

I checked my setting and that's the way I have it set up. I still have the problem. I don't know why it gives the wrong notification sound on the repeats.

You change the notifications sound for that app? If so what steps you did to change the sound

Forgot all about this thread. In the Google messages app in the settings go to notifications then notification categories. Under incoming messages select the preferred sound. Works fine. I can set up special sounds for different contacts, works fine. It's just any repeat notification uses the system default notification not the one selected for Google messages.

There seems to be an error in your notification settings or an issue with the snooze feature in Google Messages. Try clearing the app's cache and data, or check if notifications are affecting your battery optimization settings. Also, make sure that Do Not Disturb mode is not affecting it. If that doesn't work, try uninstalling and reinstalling Google Messages to reset your settings.
