Good morning first of all.

I decided to get brave and hope i don't screw the pooch to badly on this. I have been following the guide located here http://forums.androidcentral.com/re...uide-guide-unlocking-rooting-htc-rezound.html I'm currently on step 8 of section 2 when i reboot the phone and hold the power and vol down.. I already tossed the file into the root of the sd card or what i assume to be the sd card at it's the only thing with 14.2 gig left. the problem is that it cant find the file PH98IMG.zip. with the new OTA is thier a different file i should be using? also it goes to a screen saying main version is older?

thanks for the help

The PH98IMG.zip is still the correct file name. When you put it on the SD card there were probably two drives showing on the computer, one called "HTC Storage" and one called "Untitled" or unnamed or something like that. You DO NOT want the one called "HTC Storage." That is the onboard memory.

Also I see that when you download the recovery you want to use, the file is named "AmonRaPH98IMG.zip" You should delete the text "AmonRa" or "Clockwork" or whatever the prefix is so the file is only named "PH98IMG.zip" (minus the quotation marks of coarse)

Which recovery are you trying to install. I used Amon-Ra and had no problems though I used a different method using ADB commands.

I used a slightly different method which doesnt require flashing a different recovery to your phone, but instead runs it through the fastboot command, preserving your phone's stock recovery. You can see my post on the bottom of the 3rd page of that thread, where I followed instructions in the linked thread on Android Forums.

It was really easy, just a simple "fastboot boot filename.img" command on my computer, and then go through the menus in Amon Ra to root.

as long as i can get back the the verizon very if i don't like the others i'm ok with putting whatever recovery i have

I'm pretty sure you can push the original recovery back the same way you put Amon-Ra. All you need is a copy of the original which I'm sure you can find either here or on XDA

Ok i got this done and i'm rooted so when i look at scotts instructions it states

Flashing the boot.img using the automatic method will change your mainver to the latest release from VZW. If you don't know what this means then you need to ask before flashing!

so i guess i want to make sure i know what it means

Basically, it's a "feature" implemented by HTC that keeps track of your firmware and prevents you from downgrading with a RUU. What this means for you, is, that if you install certain ROMs, such as the ICS leak, your phone will recognize that you're on an "upgraded" firmware. If you attempt to go back to stock using RUU, it will reject it, saying that the mainver is older.

I didn't plan on going to the ICS version but for the sake of arguement lets say I did. Would there be a way for me to get back to the stock rom?

The link I put up has a general step-by-step on how to get around the mainver issue with different ROMs. There's also a way to edit mainver over on XDA, but I couldn't say much about it because I haven't tried/had to do it.
