I have scoured these forums with trying to figure out best way to root DL09 (OTA) and setup a fresh kernel/rom.

I am an IT Manager but for the life of me Android confuses me! Anyhow

I just want to make sure i have the steps correctly before I brick my phone.

I did the OTA update to DJ09

Step 1 install ODIN (latest version) 3V1.3

Step 2 Downloads to the SDCARD (All Zipped or MD5's):
Odin package for CWMRecovery CWMRecovery_DJ05_DL09.tar.md5(md5) from Adrynalyne
Test Kernel 5(zip) from Adrynalyne
SuperUser(zip) Modified by Adrynalyne from Adrynalyne
Update.zip(zip) Modified by Adrynalyne from Adrynalyne
(Optional) Superuser DJ09(Zip) Version from Adrynalyne (You can choose whatever ROM you want that is supported by DJ09)

Step 3 Settings > Applications (Allow Unknown Sources) Then > Development > Turn on USB Debugging and Stay Awake

Step 4 Turn off Phone, Take out Battery, Launch ODIN, Hold down volume button for a few moments (You will get the triangle Yellow (!) Point.

Step 5 Flash the ODIN package CWMRecovery_DJ05_DL09.tar.md5 using ODIN (PDA) Option Only.

Step 6 Put battery back in, reboot directly to recovery(Holding both vol down and up and powering on) and launch CWMRecovery by Running the Update.zip from the SDCARD you downloaded in ste 1 (Note: DONT let phone reboot to OS or CWM will be removed if you are running the latest DJ09 (OTA) Kernel.

Step 7 Flash the Adrynalyne Kernel first, then the SU Package then (Optional) the ROM of your choice.

Thought i would clean up the steps I did to perform a successful Adrynalyne Hack.

Yes you will need a kernel, you can download them with ROM Manager after you have flashed your recovery and have rooted.

*Otherwise if you flash a ROM and no kernel you will not have haptic feedback (soft keys wont vibrate, etc)

You will need to install a kernel as soon as you apply the update.zip. otherwise the stock kernel will overwrite cwm when you reboot

I take it i can install the Kernel AFTER I flash to Superclean or is the best practice to do it before?

This. You need to flash the kernel as soon as you get into CWM for the first time

Okay so i should download a kernel to the SDCARD and I will be given an option in CWM to flash it?

once you're in cwm, go to "install zip from sdcard" then "choose zip from sdcard" and find the zip and select it and flash away

was this thread not useful, can you please let me know what was not clear so i can modify it to help others better understand,

thank you in advance for any feed back

Droid I will respond in a sec about that post. But in the mean time I tried to use ODIN (PTA) to start flashing CWMRecovery_DJ05_DL09.tar.md5 based on adry's post. but I get:
<ID:0/008> Checking MD5 finished Sucessfully..
<ID:0/008> Leave CS..
<ID:0/008> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/008> Initialzation..
<ID:0/008> Get PIT for mapping..
<ID:0/008> Firmware update start..
<ID:0/008> recovery.bin
<ID:0/008> Complete(Write) operation failed.

now phone won't boot.

Do I use the PIT field not the PDA field of ODIN?

No def PDA..try again from a different USB port, most problems come from connection issues like something interupting the process like antivirus, or load voltage varying from USB port.

are you keeping the battery out of the phone during the process?

No battery wasn't pulled that seemed to have solved the problem it flashed it no problem!

Thanks Droid.

To your question its not that your or adry's posts are confusing in its directions its just that there are a lot of posts about the same stuff doing it different ways. That to me is what makes it sort of difficult to understand. IMO to many sticky threads would be good if there was just 1 thread with the DJ09 directions but instead you get a go here link go here link go here link oh then go here, etc. And since i consider myself a major android rookie I wanted to be sure I understood the steps that I needed to follow before i blew my phone up lol, But otherwise the posts are rock solid in the directions.

thanks, im trying to refine the directions and keeping links and downloads available also. problem is we start a topic and it goes of into a tangent in one direction then you are stuck on one topic.... thats why i sectioned off my how to root and was able to keep all the different ways and i reserved posts for future additions.

appreciate the feed back and glad that worked for you
:)

Not a problem Droid.

Good news the I downloaded Adry's test kernel 5 to the sdcard and patched that along with his superuser busybox odin update and got both zip files to successfully install. and my phone boots now wuuw.

I haven't bought the ROM manager yet though I think I may. I am trying to get the superclean installed.

I see 2 Super Clean Roms in the non premium version Super Clean ROM (DJ05) which looks to be updated 12/16 version 0.9 and Super Clean Rom which looks to be version .4 updated 10/30

Which one should I use with DJ09? I take it the 12/16 version .9?? Or do I need to buy ROM Manager to get a more updated version? Thats my last question haha..... Maybe!

if you want to get the DL09 super clean rom installed, see this post: http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...s-hacks/53810-rom-dl09-super-clean-0-4-a.html

just download the zip to your SD card and flash in cwm. you don't need rom manager to do so.

I have a question, I used the root method from Adrynalyne with droidx's instructions and all went flawless. I am raeading in this thread that I need to flash a different kernel as well. I dont think I did that unless it was included in one of the downloads from Adrynalynes post. So if I want to install the super clean Rom will I need to flash a kernel first or can I just flash it without flashing a kernel? If so I assume one of the test kernels from Adrynalyne would be good to use?

if you did it following my instructions you did install a kernel, but it was just a generic kernel...you should be able to use it with that rom, or of course you can use one of Adrynalynes kernels

The roms under JT in Rom Manager are a bit old and for DJ05 or DI01 I believe.

As for kernels, the test kernel 2 has been great for me. What exactly have you installed/flashed?
