I am having an assortment of issues after the latest OTA update to 026A. I am on 4.4.2 stock. Previous to this the phone was FLAWLESS, very fast and snappy. Now I have:
random massive battery drain to the point the back of the phone gets hot while sitting on my desk at idle.
apps crash and force close that did not before.
Phone is sluggish when opening and closing apps, fast and snappy before.
Random texts take forever to send.
At random get signed out of google, get errors signing back in.
Phone goes to vibrate on its own in the middle of night (this is NOT acceptable at all)
at random get messages that data service is not available..am in strong area (never happened before update)
get random messages that visual voice mail has failed....once again no problem before update.

So, couldn't they have left well enough alone? There was nothing to fix, now there is plenty to fix after the update. Reminds me of issues at work with software "updates". Worked flawlessly before, train wreck after.

So if I do a FDR will I loose all my saved documents, pics, videos on phone? seems like I had issues before with loosing all that but I can not remember if it was this phone or a previous one.

A factory default is the proper "next step", and yes, you will lose ALL data on the phone that is not synced to online services, so copy everything to your PC first. A FDR will return your phone to an out of box condition, everything will be wiped out.

There is a very good chance that a FDR will fix your issues.

I am noticing many of the same issues. Mine has also become very "jittery" when scrolling through screens or returning to the home screen from an app.

In addition, I'm having problems with my capacitive buttons at the bottom of my screen. The Home button has virtually stopped working entirely.

And the sudden battery drain is insane! Also unacceptable. I used to be able to get through a full day easily, with battery to spare, and now I can't get through half a day. I've got Battery Doctor and everything else I can think of trying to fix the problem, but nothing seems to do the trick.

I know a FDR will likely remedy most, if not all, of these problems, but this shouldn't be necessary in the first place, and is completely unacceptable to me. Like dmproske, my phone was fine before the damn 26A update, and I didn't even voluntarily install it; it installed all on its own overnight. GRRRR!

After the update, the weather channel app specifically was draining both of our batteries. I have deleted it on both phones and it's better....much better

I finally realized that I am experiencing one of the other reported problems: dead spots on the screen. I think it's what's affecting my capacitive buttons, and it's causing serious problems with "swiping" and "knock on/off."

Again, how can they not have found all these issues when they supposedly tested this update?

Upon reflection, I have serious doubts that this will actually resolve the issues long-term. Even though the FDR will get rid of the recent updates, it means I'll lose the advantages that came with 4.4.2 and the very beneficial bug fixes I got with the 25A and 25B updates. If past experience is any indicator, there will be no way to upgrade to 4.4.2 without getting the 26A update along with it. And even if this WERE possible, I have no reason to believe that Verizon will not simply push the 26A update to our phones - without our permission or consent - as they did this time so, once again, back to exactly where I am right now, only having added a lot of BS and anxiety along the way.

I know I'm sounding like a whiner - and maybe I am - but it just really pisses me off that my phone was working perfectly fine 10 days ago, and now so many aspects and features of the phone are essentially broken, to the extent that the phone is close to becoming useless to me, due to its unreliability.

A FDR does NOT remove any updates, you misunderstand what it does, it removes all data and settings from the phone, not firmware (/system partition). After a FDR you will still have whatever firmware you had before the reset.

If it doesn't correct the issues, worker reflash the stock firmware and if that fails you have an issue larger than you cans correct yourself easily.

Ok I did the FDR and it fixed most of the issues. Phone is ALMOST as fast and snappy as it used to be. Battery is back to normal. Weather Bug radar still does not work but I think an app update somewhere is causing that.

Also having the same issues as described here, except the update seems to have fixed the issues I was having with Visual Voicemail failure notifications. Battery life has gone from amazing to horrendously bad, texts are taking forever to send, and the lag/stutter has definitely become noticeable and worrisome. I guess my question is, before I take the plunge and do an FDR, have the issues stayed fixed after your FDR or did they come back? Any hope for it fixing Quiet Mode?I hate doing an FDR as seems to take forever to get things back the way I like it...

I'm having the same problem with weather bug, I think the issue is with the app and a recent app update, NOT the 26a update to the G2 as WB was working up until recently for me.

EDIT: Just read some of the comments on WB app site on google play app store and it seems like its effecting more phones than just the G2.

FDR definitely fixed battery life for me.

Some things to consider though.... our phones rely on a good signal from all of their "radios" to work. That said, I found that disabling location services, Bluetooth and NFC has made a dramatic difference when I am at work and in areas of poor service. Also, if you use weather apps that "update" frequently and have social media apps set to update frequently, they can be a significant source of battery drain.

@trekkie, our phones do not have capacative buttons on them, they are part of the screen.

Thank you for that information. You're right: I did misunderstand. Afraid my years suffering with iOS left me thinking it worked the same.

Will give this a try. I don't know if I'm correct, but my problems actually seem to be getting worse. I now have about 1/4 of my keyboard that simply does not work; and that portion of the screen in general is non-responsive.

Will report back.

Off to back-up land.

Did the FDR...its like new again! The lag and stuttering are gone, battery life is back on par, and even Quiet Mode is working correctly again. :) (never had issues with the reported "dead spots") so can't comment on that.

Thanks for the info on goggle play services regarding weather bug. Worked like a charm.

Unfortunately, the FDR did not work on mine. Well, I don't know if it helped with all the issues, because it seems to have actually made the dead spot on my screen bigger. I've done 3 FDRs without any positive result. It's affected my keyboard so badly that it was a real challenge to set the phone up for the most basic services (involved texting my gmail user ID and password to myself, and then copying and pasting). A chat session with Verizon led to no resolution except that they have said they have to send me a new (refurb) phone. I am not happy. I don't understand how a problem created by a software update cannot be solved similarly. And I'm not thrilled that my brand new phone is being replaced with a refurb, but whatever I guess. Just hoping the new phone actually works and the 26A firmware doesn't cause the same problems. Fingers crossed, I guess. Will report back once it's here.

I had the same problem with the screen not responding and had to get a refurb. Except that it was before the software updates. I think that you receiving the update and the screen going bad was just an unfortunate coincidence and that one doesn't affect the other.

@trekkiemonster , Screen dead spots are usually hardware related. The fact that it is getting worse and was not resolved after several hard resets makes me think it is certainly related to a bad screen/hardware.

Interesting. Of course, that is certainly possible, but the coincidental timing leaves me suspicious. I literally went to bed one night - having checked to make sure the 26A update and NOT been installed on my phone (because so many people were reporting problems with it) - and woke up the next morning to discover throughout the day that I was experiencing a whole host of issues (most of which are reported in this thread), including the dead spot. When I thought to check later in the morning, I discovered the 26A update had apparently been pushed to my phone and "self-installed" overnight. Thus, my conclusion that it was the update that caused the problem.

Regardless, I'm supposed to get the new/refurb today. I'm just looking forward to having a phone that works properly again. It's amazing how dependent we become on these things, huh?
