Asus RMA Process Takes Up to 2 Weeks

I've never said that a two week turn around is bad...never once and if I did, quote me. I have said that I am upset that a mechanism is not in place to keep consumers from having to go without their purchase. Read that portion again...my argument is that there is no program in place to have a replacement device without purchasing a new unit.

As far as the cost per SKU. I don't dispute your numbers only your source. I stand by the statement I made that thus has never been confirmed (nor denied) by Google. Regardless, they still have a support cost that must be maintained.

And to reference an example you used, the Kindle family, even at the steeply discounted price, they do offer like kind exchanges for warranty claim items. So if Amazon can afford to do it (especially now with the revamped lineup with vastly improved hardware) why can't Google/Asus?

Honestly, it doesn't matter in the end. Monday I'm going to send it back and wait for its return. I've said it many many times, my primary argument has been its unlike Google to offer an immediate replacement for one of their products.

I haven't been through the process, but based on the forums that's my understanding of exactly how it works when you buy through the Play Store on the Nexus 4. The differences are fairly obvious though... it's much more difficult to be without phone service than without YouTube, and Google is the primary point of contact because they're the seller. I'm inclined to agree that it would be MUCH cooler if Google did RMA's that way, however them not doing something that would be better if they did is not the same thing as doing something wrong, if that distinction makes sense. And buying from a 3rd party makes it kind of moot anyways, as then the complaint would be best levied at Game Stop.

The OP originally posted this in the XDA Dev's forum (only with the much more frantic title of "WARNING!! Buy At Your Own Risk), and was told to stop whining, and grow up, etc.

Apparently, he didn't get the response he was looking for (blaming them for not being intelligent enough to understand his message to the world), so I guess he's posting it here now, hoping we'll give him the validation he didn't get in the other forum.

I ordered the LTE model from Google Play. It was a long and painful wait for it to finally be available. I waited 10 days for it to arrive at my door because I opted for the free shipping. My unit arrived DOA. It wouldn't get past the Google screen. I called Google and the rep helped me troubleshoot it and deemed it to be dead. Now I have to wait while they send me a new one. While this is disappointing, it's part of life. I'm not whining.

So, after reading most of the above I have only one question. Did you go back to the GameStop to see if they would do an exchange for you? I bought my nexus there and also got a extended warranty JUST in case I repeated my history and HAD to have the next newest thing. They were great about it and said just bring it back and they would exchange on the spot. Maybe they would do that for you as well - even if you didn't extend the warranty and it's only been 7 weeks and 2 days.

Does any other Android OEM offer an immediate replacement service?

Outside of Amazon, I can't think of anybody who would do anything of the sorts. Yet it is forgotten that Amazon has an infrastructure that nobody else has.

I suggest OP you sell your Nexus 7 and get a Kindle HDX since that is the only company that will meet your needs.

Or you can start your own tablet company because there is a level of service missing in the market which would be a perfect opportunity for a visionary as yourself to come in and make billions off of it.

After reading around a bit. The problem is that the user did not buy directly from google store otherwise they would charge you for the 2nd nexus and send you a new one while they wait back for you to return your first nexus to refund you on the first. Waiting 1-2 week for repair service is reasonable. If you have no other option, you can go best buy and buy the device to use for 2 weeks then return it before the 14 day exchange/refund expire.
