AT&T detecting (and interfering with) tethering?

I have a Captivate that I rooted a long time ago so that I could tether for free. It has worked fine up until yesterday (perhaps Monday). I have 3 or 4 bars, but applications I use see repeated connection drops through the tethered network.

Has anybody else seen this, or know whether AT&T have implemented something new?

Thanks,

I don't know about tethering, but I use my Galaxy Nexus (unbranded, bought from Google) for SSH and FTP as well as the other usual protocols, and just as of this week, FTP and SSH connections are terminated (I'm guessing by AT&T) after about 10 seconds.

I have contacted AT&T 2 or 3 times, and they say they can't tell me anything, and there isn't anybody who can. Lovely. :-(

Here's some links to my discussions about it:
