I just realized my upgrade isn't until the beginning of May so looks like I won't be preordering after all.

I can wait it out. I'm still enjoying my iPhone 5.

If there you have AT&T, and you have been a long time customer with a large monthly charges, the carrier may allow upgrading before the actual upgrade date.

But when will they actually ship, or do we have to wait until the pre-order date to find out when its coming. I am porting my number over so I can't even pre-order without the risk of something going wrong. I have to wait for launch day.

With Nokia 920, they shipped so that you SHOULD receive day of official launch. I actually received mine day before official launch due to distribution center proximity. But some didn't receive until day after. And I didn't receive shipping confirmation until after I RECEIVED my phone. Also don't call cs, online chat or speak with store rep because they won't have the slightest clue about any specifics on anything. I now know why people hate ATT customer service. You will get 3 different stories. Just order it and should receive on official launch day or there abouts.
