Also, I'd really like to know how to restore my personal data/app data after unrooting. A little background:

I only unrooted so as to be able to uninstal bloatware. I'm not sophisticated enough to make use of custom ROMs or tweak the system, but I wanted to get rid of crap and my understanding was rooting was the only way to do this. Since I've rooted, the vibrate function barely works. After having hardware techs look at it, they determined that it is not the hardware, and concluded that rooting it probably changed some system settings that are interfering with the function. They said I should unroot and take back to AT&T if that doesn't solve.

My issue is that clearly UNrooting will cause me to lose my personal/app data. As I said I'm a fairly unsophisticated user, and although I know you've made this guide as basic as possible, it's still a bit confusing. I realize it was probably a mistake to root in the first place, I should have just dealt with the bloat and got on with my life. However, now an essential function of the device is impaired and I need it back.

I'm hoping this isn't a dead thread and someone here will have the patience to explain the process a little better so that I can restore the phone and not lose my data.

Thanks in advance...

If you didn't flash any custom ROM and kept the stock ROM, I doubt it's any "software" issue. The techs may not know about rooting at all. Rooting gives you access to full administrative rights over your phone. That's it. It doesn't magically change settings in your phone. It doesn't mess with any settings unless the user did. Did you install any apps that require root? Are you using any task killers? Need more info to help you.
