AT&T took away my dataplan

just got my wife's phone, called customer service, reasoned with them for quite awhile but eventually they switched her phone over to unlimited, the rep said she had no idea how to do it but she found out from a co-worker.

in the 4 times i've ever had to call customer support at att i've never had an issue with them (wish i could say the same about other customer support centers)

I should have known AT&T would mess things up.
I have an unlimited data plan left over my iPhone days. I called AT&T twice to check whether I could keep my unlimited plan if I upgraded to the Atrix. Both times (after they did some checking) they said yes. I've been using the Atrix since Monday.
So, today I get a text message from AT&T stating that I have incurred over $20 in usage fees. WTF? I called AT&T and they informed me that I had no data plan and were charging me by the MB. ARRRGGGG!
They apologized for the screw up, and tried to put the unlimited plan back. But the system wouldn't allow it.
That's it - I lost my unlimited data plan.

My choices are to go with a 2GB plan for $25 or return the phone and I can go back to unlimited and fire up my trusty Nexus 1 again.

Has anyone here with an unlimited data plan been able to keep it? Are you sure?

I'm sort of in the same boat. I upgraded from a Nexus 1 to the Atrix and I had an unlimited personal plan originally. I had asked if I would be able to keep this plan after upgrading to the Atrix before I bought it. I specifically called AT&T and asked if that would work and also saw it on their facebook page. I called them to activate my phone when I received it, and the "system" won't let them because certain plans go with certain phones (supposedly). He eventually just said that since it was working, leave it alone, and he said that periodically the system "scans" for phones that have the correct data plan for the phone and that mine would get flagged at that point.

He said it would start dropping calls, etc., and just call AT&T and ask about the calls. He said don't mention the conversation I had him with him. Just to let them figure it out and make them give me that plan.

I thought all of this was pretty weird. Has anyone else had this problem when upgrading from a Nexus 1?

Yeah, I had a similar conversation when I called AT&T today. The support person said that I had an unlimited 3G plan and that I would need a 4G data plan. I reminded her that I had already thought of that and that was why I had made the 2 previous calls to AT&T BEFORE I bought the Atrix. Nobody there seems to know what's going on.

I plan on going to my neighborhood AT&T store tomorrow and try to get this straightened out.

Hmmm...

I actually just did an IMEI switch going from my Inspire to Atrix, but going from my iPhone I made sure on the site before going to the store what my data plan options were, and the rep at Costco was able to find the option ok. Maybe something changed in the account management system?

It's called 'SmartPhone Personal' on my account...

Data Plan for SmartPhones. Unlimited domestic data usage. Only available for upgrades. Requires customers to be on a "Gold List" SmartPhone Plan prior to upgrade to HSPA+ device.

my unlimited plan is still working perfect! I checked online to verify that it is still active.. and it is! using my laptop dock flawlessly too..

How you get the unlimited working with the dock? I have a case open for the unlimited plan put back after switching from Iphone. They said it takes a week.

I got my unlimited data plan back - whew!
As suggested earlier in this thread, I went to the local AT&T store. After explaining the situation, the sales person called AT&T and got the situation straightened out. He said this kind of issue takes a supervisor to correct and maybe there wasn't one immediately available when I called the other day.
He also said he just had to do the exact same thing on another account 30 minutes earlier. So, it appears this is a common issue.

I signed up as a new customer confident that 2gb would be enough for me. It wasn't. After 2 weeks I was getting overage text warnings. Couldn't get unlimited so I canceled and returned my iPhone 4 and got the mytouch 4g with T-Mobile. When I went to cancel I was told 2gb should be more than enough for the average user. I guess I'm not the average user.

My case I made sure the guy at the store made sure that my plan wouldn't be affected. I then left and got to work and started browsing.....the browser had a message about charges per megabyte and after a while I called ATT and finally after speaking to a manager they reinstated my iPhone 4G 30.00 plan.
The manager DID say that if I put the SIM in the iPhone it would kill the unlimited data plan! She said I could either have a 4G plan (Atrix) or the 3G plan (iPhone). What a load of crap! I'm not brave enough to try but she said it would involve another phone call and waiting forever on hold.

She was quite courteous and ignorant. She did say next time to tell the phone person to look in the "Special Notes" section to see what my case was and an explanation of my "special case". Whatever.

She did say that she had never heard of anyone making an iPhone sim work in any other phone, she was amazed that I could make it work in as many phones as I described to her.

So, I now have the hsdppb plan when before I had the other one.

PS: She graciously offered to refund the fees I'd been charged that afternoon.

EXACTLY! they promote all the video and download stuff that makes the consumers life wonderful and perfect (GAG!), but give a crumb of data service to do it in as AVERAGE.

fwiw, i've used 4.5GB 1/2 way thru my billing cycle...

They took mine away accidentally with upgrade. Went back to store and they put in a service call. Within 4 hours i gat a text mess. sayin my unlimited was put back. good luck
