Got my N2 on the 9th and have just hit 5gb worth of data on the 27th. Got a warning at 2gb and did not see any reduced speeds.. got a warning at 4.75gb that said if I pass 5gb it will be reduced. I said to myself "as long as they dont drop me down to something like .5 mbps up/down, who cares?" well guess what.. speed test on 4G reads just that, .5 up and down (1/2 a mbps). WHAT the hell.. I noticed a immediate drop.

Now.. I have not been using my Wifi.. so I know that will help me next month. This is my first 4G phone so I have been enjoying having data speeds faster than most wifi networks I would use.. so I just left it off.

QUESTION for the community is.. has anyone been able to get AT&T to lift this limit? Argue that this isn't really unlimited?

Sorry if I am ranting.. just happened and I am not happy about it.

Not going to lift the throttling limit. They already went through the protest phase. They originally had an arbitrary limit based on local networks.
They settled on the 5 gb for LTE and 3 gb for non-LTE 4G and 3G.

Stinks, but at least they haven't pulled a Verizon and forcing us to the shared plan!!

I received my note 2 on the 15th and used up almost 6gb on LTE. This phone is a data hog! I'm stuck with ATT for good. On my old iphone 3GS I would use 2-3gb max.

I did see that there are three data unlimited options in the feature list. I changed to another and speeds returned.

The 2GB warning is issued by your phone, not by AT&T. You can configure it to a different threshold if you like (Settings->Data Usage).

It's called throttling. My husband got throttled once and only once. He was uploading videos of his car to YouTube using AT&T's network so it was sucking up massive amounts of data. We also have grandfathered in unlimited data plans on both of our phones. AT&T supposedly only throttles the top 5% of their users... Note I said 'supposedly'.

BeRih, did your UNLIMITED / Grandfathered data plan go up to $45.00 with the GN2 ? it was $30.00 for the 3G... just wondering after multiple phone calls and finally getting mine changed back to unlimited... it now shows a $45.00 unlimited rate plan.....

Top 5% of all users. With majority of their users on some kind of smartphone data plan, you will probably be one of the top 5% if you go over 3GB a month! :p I have AT&T unlimited for the last 5 years and I don't think I have ever gone over 3GB a month.

My grandfathered unlimited data plan is the 4G LTE one for $30 a month. I have company discount of 25% so it is $22.50 a month.

Same here... first 4LTE phone and got mine in early December and I'm about to hit 5gb of data.
I came from iPhone's and never went over 2gb of data... I guess you can say we really love this phone or LTE. ;)

I have two more days until my next bill cycle and I''ve been on my slow Wi-Fi to prevent "throttling".

$30 a month here also. You must have missed or ignored all the "throttle" threads over the last year or so LOL...no more top 5% etc I think it is a straight 3GB for unlimited HSPA+ plans and 5GB on LTE unlimited plans. LazrRocketArm is correct in that intense pressure was bought onto ATT and this was their solution. Do not want to rehash all the info again but you may want to use wifi when possible if you use that much data.

I had hit the monthly cap and never got a notice. My phone just randomly ran realllly slow. I called 611 because I thought my phone's data stopped working but they notified me I hit the cap and offered to remove it as a one time thing. Might be worth a shot for this month and then next you can use a data widget to make sure you don't go over (I've since switched to a mobile family share 10GB plan and never have any issues).

Seems to me like you guys are in the top 5% of the data hogs. Here is a graph of my data usage for the last year and a half. This data can be retrieved from att's billing report when you log into your account.

It hasn't gone up, still $30/line.

Also, here's my husband's data usage over the past six months and he was ONLY throttled in November...

Something interesting from that...

For example, in January, the top 5 percent of our unlimited data plan customers used an average of over 50 percent more data than the top 5 percent of customers on tiered plans.

lostchild, were you on unlimited data plan 3G and went to 4G LTE?
Because I was on unlimited data plan 3G (iphone4) and I bought the Note 2, and I am grandfathered in unlimited data plan 4G, but not 4G LTE.

Yes. I was on 3G unlimited and it was grandfather to Data Unlimited for 4G LTE w/Visual Voice Mail.
