AT&T will shut down the 2G network by the end of 2016

I sometimes force my phones on onto the Edge networksince it is seems to reach below ground level better than 3G or LTE. I hope the use the frequency for LTE.

Last time I tried AT&T about two years ago, all I could get were edge speeds at my house. I wonder what this will do to those people.

Well, they claim they are going to transition that spectrum to LTE. Time will tell.

Att should be fine when 2g gets shut down. By then they should have more upgrades that have been done. I wonder if they may extend it a little into 2017 for the shutdown if needed

I'm thinking more like 6 months into next year but that's only a guess.

My question is what this does to those on flip phones. Will they lose service in more areas? As much as I enjoy the bleeding edge, not everyone is the same way. Some, like my family, still like the tried and true basic phones.

Basic non smart phones have had 3G frequencies bultin for years. The Moto V3 Razr had 3G.

Yes, but, what about the fallback? I'm aware that 3G has been around on basic phones for many years. In areas where 3G isn't available, say out in the backwoods, what then? No service?

Pretty much -- yep. They are going to re-purpose that spectrum for other things.
