at times, keyboard is not working

at certain times my galaxy y keyboard does not work...
and it will work only when the phone is restarted....
In some urgent situation i cant even able to type the name of any contact ....
all the other functions are working bt the keyboard makes my things stupid...
i have noticed that when the keyboard is working proprly and if i lock my phone and when i unlock it the keyboard wont works bt somtimes it works.....
plz cn u help...
n suggest me some ways to solve this irritating error....
