Atrix "Media Area" question

On my Moto Atrix on AT&T w/gingerbread, there is a tab in the manage apps area called "Media area". In the list of apps under it, the ones checked are things like currents, goal.com mobile, and scrabble... all of which don't seem to be media type apps. I would associate media apps with things like music and video players. What is the actual purpose of the media area?

Items appearing on the Media Area tab have been installed to the internal SD (internal storage) or moved there using the Manage Apps app.

I'd like to know why some are some are checked while others not.
