Atrix Update: Version 4.1.57 ......

I have not been able to update....It keeps telling me unable to connect with the server. Have not done anything to phone since purchase, except switched to Launcher Pro. Only thing is motoblur is not working, because the ATT rep put in some wrong passcode for me, and despite switching it online, it won't let me sign in. The Moto rep said the only way to cure this is to go back to factory settings, but with a million apps, not so inclined, unless the update depends on signing into motoblur.

Help anyone? I have also not received a message that update is available. Does this come from ATT or Moto?

I wish I knew how some people were getting such good battery life... This phone has been terrible on battery life. Charging twice a day is not good. This is my second Atrix and it is worse that the first one... Tried to return it but AT&T went by the ship date and not the received date for my 30 days.

... AT&T went by the ship date and not the received date for my 30 days.

From my perspective, that seems to be an arguable point. (And perhaps an indication of some laziness on the part of AT&T)?

How can they justify penalizing you for the time it was in their hands and not your's?

Have you tried using something like juice defender?

i don't get it either? to expand on the prior post:

when you go to an att store, buy the atrix in person, they don't hand the phone to you and say: oh, it came 2 days ago via fedex, so your 30 days are up in 28 days?

billing starts when the handset is activated, right? you didn't pay for data while the atrix was in transit? did they bill you for smartphone service the x number of days of shipping to activation, or at least date delivered?

sounds like att's desperation to keep handsets on the street. or a representative talking down to, and being dismissive of, a younger customer.

Completed the update. Swype seems to work a little better. Hoping battery life will be a bit longer but really haven't seen any difference.

Had the update running for a few days and so far I can say I see a marked improvement in battery life. As far as being more responsive its my feeling that if anything its the other way. I find myself having to touch my selection sometimes 2-3 times before it actually loads it. It does change the icon each time but no load. Not a deal breaker , just my limited observation. Overall I am very happy with the update so far.

this is just really beyond me how people get different results in batterry performance with the same phone and same update version... i had the same kind of problem with my 2 BB Torches ended up returning them and reversing the line upgrade... while reading on crackberry forums that people were getting amazing results with their batteries... I have few more days until the 7th of this month to exchange the phone but i really don't want to do that because with my luck i might get something even more worse than now...

I found a few things that have made my battery performance improve. It is not amazing, but it's all I need and a little more. I used to have to charge at least once a day, and my phone was always warm to the touch. Even if it had been riding in my pocket for an hour it would not be "cold" feeling.
The first thing I did was a factory data reset. I read about people having better battery life after performing a factory reset WITH THE BATTERY AT 100%. There could be several reasons why this works. You know how the instructions always say to fully charge your new phone before using it? Ever done it? Yea, me neither. If you didn't do it then a factory reset at batt=100% seems to improve the way the phone manages the battery. Also, when I did it I noticed several things change on my phone. The swype finger trail used to stay on screen in it's full length until the next word was started. Now it has a limited length just like my wife's captivate. Also when I bought my phone "atrix" was already in the custom dictionary for swype. I had to put in in manually the first time after the reset. Odd little things that I guess att somehow put in there before I received it. To do a factory reset backup your info, write down what apps you have, and go to "settings," "privacy," "factory data reset."
Next I found a rouge app. I installed the app "out of milk" at the suggestion of 2 friends who have used it for a year on their original droids. Cool app, but something about the way to works on the atrix gets out of line. I pulled up the factory froyo task manager and it showed that app to be using 74% cpu. I had not even used it since the day before!! My fix for that problem was to just add it to my "auto end" list. This way I can still use it (I like it) and prevent it from running away when I'm not looking. Check your task manager every once in a while because apps that work perfectly on other phones can malfunction on this one. That is the only app I have in the auto end list.
Then I installed the update. Now my phone actually gets cold when I don't use it. I changed my battery profile to "max battery saver" around the same time too. I also never used the google search bar that is on the top of the center home screen so I took it off and put up there a cool stock android widget called "power control." Its just a bar that has buttons to toggle all the stuff in your phone, and it's already in your phone. Now I turn off the gps when I am at work (already knew I was there...) and bluetooth when I'm not in the car. There is a sync toggle on it too so you can disable all your programs/widgets from updating. It's useful if you get caught out with a low battery and need to stretch it a little. It's way better than airplane mode because it doesn't disable voice calls. Oh yea and I found out I had no less than 3 widgets monitoring my facebook. I have been eliminating widgets I don't use and finding better ones.
Keep working on it and you will get there. I am new to android and didn't realize I would have to do all this myself. But that's the beauty of it too. Our phones can do whatever we want them to do. It is up to us to make them do it though. They are not locked down like iphones, so different things, good or bad, can and will happen. Good luck.

yeahh these are sure amazing tips on how to save the battery life, but..... if i have a top of the line phone or better yet "Super phone" (thats how it called on NVIDIA website) and i am forced to keep it permanently on "max battery saver", remove all cool widgets that i like to use, having to manually switch back and forth to airplane mode and what not.. then it really defeats the purpose of owning a so called "Super Phone" right....? i mean what's the use of having such a powerful device basically an ultra-portable phone/computer if i cant use any of the available features for the sake of battery life? well..... when i was switching from my old trusted bb bold 9700 to Atrix i was fully aware of the differences in battery life of these two devices, so i purchased two spare batteries to always have with me when i am not at home... and still i dont use any live widgets on my phone right now except the weatherbug which updates once in an hour... so yeahhh... thanks for the tips though... I mean each person has his own approach to the problem so if it works for you then its really great! but honestly i truly believe that with the constant progress of technology, one should spend less or as minimum time as possible on trying to maintain the device, constantly going into setting and adjusting them, rather than just enjoying a pure and flawless experience of all available great features that this and other devices offer.. ironically, i almost NEVER had to adjust any setting on my bold 9700.... it just worked thats all... not that i regret that i switched to Android of course... thats just my own opinion... not complaining or anything just wanted to express my thoughts on the subject... thanks..

plus the pita if you have an external case like the otterbox defender, you have to get all the layers of protection off to change the battery, then redo the whole thing.

I understand what you mean. It's just android though, not the atrix specifically. These phones do so much more then competitive devices that the battery life cannot be compared. It would be like comparing the fuel mileage of a honda with a greyhound bus, it's not doing the same thing. I hate to say it but if you really want a device that you can spend less or as minimum time as possible on trying to maintain the device, constantly going into setting and adjusting them, rather than just enjoying a pure and flawless experience of all available great features, the iphone will fit your needs better than any android device.

Well thank you very much for your suggestion :) but at this point i'd rather go back to my old bold 9700 than get an iphone.... All i ment is that there are some enthusiasts that just looove messing with settings and even going deeper to the system files changing them and so on... But for majority of consumers these are just unnecessary time consuming tasks, so phone/OS makers should really consider that when working on their new devices... Yes iphone at this point beats all other smartphones in simplicity of use but I would never consider getting it for number of reasons which are just too obvious and i dont really want to discuss them here.. And NO, I am not a fanboy of any phone or OS i simply choose electronics to suit my specific needs and Atrix been better than any other phone i've had so far.

flash back to 1.2.6

hello,I flashed 1.5.2 to my Atrix, afterwards realized i flashed the wrong version.when I tried to flash back to 1.2.6 using rsd lite,it didn't recognize 1.2.6 sbf.Is there any other way to get back to 1.2.6?thanks for your help.

Coming from a DINC I tried to save money byswitching to T mobile (for 3 months) I had enough of the brick that was a my touch 4g. I just signed with ATT last week and got a Atrix.
I have to say this is a great phone!!! So enjoyable to have something do what you want it to!!! Got the update this morning and it seems even snappier. I look forward to growing with this phone.

Will be checking this forum often, thanks for all the info!

Downloaded it last night. I haven't had any of the issues I have read about so far, praise God. I did have some connection issues when wi-fi was turned on but found a fix here on this forum and everything is clicking right along. I like the feel of my Inspire better, but only because it is bigger. Atrix seems small in my hands.
