I've been through every settings menu I could find but I can't not figure out how to change the sound notifications on the stock email notifications and stock alarm. I went into sound settings and the only thing they have is default system notifications. I even went into each apps setting to configure it there but was not able to find notification sounds. Are you unable to change this in Android 4.2.2? Do I have to go get another email program and clock to be able to do this?>

Thanks for your responses.

Open the email app, press the menu button and select settings, select the email account you want to change the sound for, on the resulting window scroll down and you will see an option for notification sound. If you are using the Gmail app, open Gmail app, press the menu button and select settings, select your Gmail account, on the resulting window select inbox sound and vibrate, on the next window select sound.

Sorry I dont have a solution for you on the alarm sounds, maybe someone else can help with that.

Not sure about the stock Email application, I only use Gmail.

For the alarm clock, just go into the Clock application then create a time for the alarm to go off, and then click on it and it should load the options for it. The options are what days it goes off etc... and there is a section for alarm sound, hit that then you can pick a sound for the alarm.

Yep. Each alarm you set has it's own settings and that's where you can change the alarm sound. I've been using Dawn Chorus for my alarm which I really like.

Thanks Guys!

Mhunter i was not going far enough into the email settings and selecting the account - I was selecting general settings and figured it would be in there.
dhughes thanks! I didn't think that the notification would be on an alarm by alarm basis.
You guys are awesome!

Another question came up as I was going through the settings. Any idea how to mute the phone completely?? I'm talking about completely silent including media. It seems each sound mode saves its settings(silent, sound, vibrate) except for the media volume. Even on quiet mode.
I want to be able to be able to turn on mute and not have to worry about a sound on a webpage playing when I'm in a meeting or if I accidentally click on a video I don't want a sound playing. Any ideas?

It looks like media is independent as you said in any mode. I did not no this. I guess you just need to manually turn down media volume when your in vibrate or silent. By manual I mean hit the setting icon on the volume bar and slide it down
