ATT LG Thrill 4g Wifi Only

I am interning in Zambia for the summer and had my phone service suspended for the summer. I brought the phone with me hoping to still use it. I have read a number of threads on using the android phones with WiFi only but nothing seems to work. Could anyone give me suggestions on what I need to do?

Try putting it in airplane mode then turning on Wifi?

Hi and thanks for the welcome. Yes I've tried that. I can connect to wifi but I can't get online.

The phones shows as being connected to wifi but when I try to browser the web its says webpage not found or if I try to use google play its says no connection retry. I've also tried to use Skype and several other apps but I can't get on the internet.
