ATT Note 7 keeps reverting to default ringtone

Guys since it isn't just one carrier, you all should report this to Samsung. After enough do it will trigger and internal investigation. It is the best way to get an update to correct it.

Use your Samsung Plus app, video call (you don't have to turn your camera on) and report what is happening. Make sure they know it isn't happening just with custom ring tones.

I'am having this issue as well on my Verizon Variant, I called Samsung and they just said if I have already factory reset it that i need to exchange the phone, cause its broke lol. I explained to him this is a software issue that its happening on other carriers as well.

OMG what nonsense! I can't stand that the end all be all answer is ALWAYS a factory reset. Uh no not always.

Ok., well, with tail between my legs I'm here to say that I did a FDR this morning. I did not install anything from back up and I'm FAR from done installing my apps, but I am doing everything from scratch. Including settings, home screens, edge panels, etc. I've rebooted at least 3 times during this process and so far my custom ringtones are sticking.

I'll update if that changes. The one app I'm concerned with is Light Flow...and in fact I might install that sooner than later to see if that changes the ringtone thing.

Keep us updated though please!!

O.k., I have all my apps installed again and I've installed the theme I was using, too. I've done several reboots. My ringtone is sticking. All my settings are staying intact.

I had done a Smart Switch set up originally. I think something (not good) must have come over with that. And when I FDRd, I did it twice...first through the menu, and then again using the volume up, home button and power button. I realize the menu option does the same thing, but for some reason some OCD part of me thought it made sense to do it twice.

So far, so good. I don't know how battery will fare. I can say that I spent literally all day getting it set up and the applications loaded...started with a full charge around 7 AM and I think I had to put it on the charger around 3. I did the bulk of the application installs this afternoon so it makes sense the battery was getting hit harder in the afternoon. Anyway I didn't really have any complaints but if the FDR improves battery of course I'll take it!

One of our other Ambassadors, Kelly Kearns, has suggested elsewhere that using Smart Switch to migrate data from an old phone to the Note7 might be one of the reasons for lag that some complain about. People who have subsequently done a factory reset have found the lag to improve. So it seems like Smart Switch might be a general source of problems.

I'm leaning towards this belief as well. It's still too soon to tell but my battery life doesn't seem quite as good as it was. However I have effectively started over from scratch so I know I need to give it a few days to settle in. All I DO know is my ringtone isn't arbitrarily changing back to the default Verizon one, which was driving me nuts!

This is interesting, I never used Smart switch but I did use the Android migrate thing where you bump the phones and back up everything. I never did see this being an issue with other phones. Guess ill try FDR and not doing the back up option.

The ringtone I selected has stuck around for a few days now, and it required that I go into my files and manually move the ringtone that I wanted from the audio folder to the ringtones folder.

Edit: I did use smart switch to set up my phone, and I haven't done a factory reset yet, hopefully it won't be necessary.

Default ringtone gets reset on reboot for me. I have done a full FDR last week and set up as a new phone and the default ringtone seems to still get reset still to ATT Firefly after a reboot. It's not consistent however. I rebooted last night and found the default ringtone this morning. I just rebooted again and its still set to my chosen ringtone. Very odd.

Mine was resetting as well (AT&T Note 7) when I set the ringtone through the pull down/gear settings menu. I went in to the stock phone app and set the ringtone there and so far, it appears to be holding even after 2 reboots. It has only been a little over a day, but so far, so good...

I take it back, I just had it revert back to firefly for me. One thing that might be a constant that I've noticed is that the phones thinks that I've rebooted when I haven't, and requires me to put in my password rather than being able to use my fingerprints.

As soon as I saw that notification I went in to check my settings and saw that my ringtone had been changed. I'm not sure what to do at this point short of a factory reset.

Come to think of it, the last time mine reset was when my phone restarted while I was in the middle of using it. The strange thing was that my up time did not register that the phone had been restarted, even though I watched it happen. When it happened, the phone did not give the normal AT&T tones so if it had been in my pocket when it happened, I may not have even known that it restarted.

I posted about it here:

Sadly I think the only way to fix this issue is to restore the phone to factory settings and not do a smart switch or anyting. Not sure I'm willing to do that at this point.

This same thing is happening on my replacement Note 7 (Verizon). I used the Samsung Cloud to reinstall some apps and settings on my Note and maybe that had something to do with it as I never had this problem on my original (exploding) Note 7.

I tried putting the ringtone file on my internal drive instead of on SD card and it still will revert back to the default Verizon Airways ringtone after I reboot the phone. I tried a brand new ringtone I just downloaded as well yesterday and it also will revert back.

Any ideas how to fix this short of a factory reset? I spend way too much time setting up my replacement N7 and don't want to do that again just to fix the ringtone glitch...
