Attachments going dark after opening

Strange occurrences for me: when I open emails with a picture attached, the picture initially comes up nice and bright and then within 2 seconds goes a bit dark....I can still view the attachment but it's pretty dark. Also and unsure if it's related, but none of the flashlight apps work for me.

Any thoughts on this one?
