Attempt to Change Avatar Yields Blurry Pixalated Partial Image

I tried to change my avatar using my desktop PC. My image was 900X900 at 72px/inch. When I upload it to AC I get a blurry, pixalated mess. Looks like an extreme closeup of a small portion of my overall image. I changed the image to 450X450. Same thing happened. What's going on?

I just tried it now and I was successful in changing my avatar.

("Open the iris please". LOL.)

I don't know what the problem was. I decided to give it another try last night and it worked.
