[Attention][Root] New root method for new Hboots

Here is all of the information I get at the top of that white screen:

SUPERSONIC EVT3 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.97.0000
MICROP-041f
TOUCH PANEL-ATMELC03_16ac
RADIO-2.15.00.09.01

Just to let you know in case youre wondering, you have an Epson panel screen and not a Novatech. No difference just an FYI :p

Sadly I have hardware 0002 still but this is an important thread for our new EVO owners so I'm making it a sticky thread.

Later,
Dave

Cool a sticky :D

Haha

Thanks for the heads up my new EVO is now rooted and ROMed with little problems. Had a moment there where I typed the wrong thing at the wrong time and freaked me out but I have it done now and working.

Thanks to all,
Dave

Good to hear :P

Is there any set backs to having the new hardware/hboot?

I have read through the sticky on rooting this version of the Evo... I had already tried unREVOKED on it before i found this post.... it said it was successful, but of course it was not... here's my question: when it says in FAQ "which ROM did you choose, or flash..." what does that mean? where do I choose which ROM? That part is confusing me. I want to do this, but will hold off until I understand that - as I don't want to brick and have to take over to sprint to fix.... if they even would LOL.

I'm a newbie to android, but tech savy. Also - can I do this on a mac? no PC access in this house.... by choice.

Hey guys, love how helpful yall are here so maybe you could help me with something?

I have a Droid X and that's all rooted and ROM'd and whatnot so my friend wanted me to help him with rooting his EVO. I was kinda hoping it would be just as easy as rooting the X, but I guess not.

I tried to use unrEVOked to root it but it still has S-ON and apps don't actually get root permissions even though it says it in Superuser. After a bit more reading, I found out that he has hboot# 0.97.0000 and saw that someone else on the front page did too. I forgot to ask him to get me the hardware version when he went into the bootloader... Just from the hboot#, can you determine if this method works? http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc...34-how-rooting-htc-evo-froyo-2-2-windows.html

If there's any more info needed, I can probably get it in just a few minutes. If not, I'll show back up in here on Wednesday with more info.

EDIT: Oh, and I was planning on flashing CM 6.0 or 6.1 after rooting and backing up everything. I guess you guys need to know the radio number too?

Yep you have the correct hboot for liquidjesus' guide, not this one.

Its not as easy to root HTC stuffs because theres nand-protection before you can get full root. But at least they didnt do us dirty like motorola did to the DX thank god.

Oh wow, thanks for the quick response! And thanks for rubbing in the situation with the DX... :( hahahaha

EDIT: Nvm, I should google before asking... sorry! But there is one more question, will having tried unrEVOked before this interfere with that method at all?

Ok so just for clarification... I'm getting a new evo tomorrow (jumping from Blackberry to Android! YAY) so if I want to root it at this point I need to follow the step-by-step command prompt instructions right? and I can't use unrevoked aka I gotta do long tedious process instead?

Probably not, but if you really want to be sure run this RUU Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!

Make sure to back-up all the stuff you want etc, you know the drill if youre flashing roms... Can the DX flash roms ? I didnt know lol.

The RUU is like a super duper hard reset lol. Reinstalls stock stuffs, and wipes everything, it will be like when you just take it outta the box.
Here's the instructions for running the RUU, but use the RUU i linked you.

Yeah man, im sitting in LA traffic, i got some time on me hands and a 4G signal :D

Yup, we have semi-ROM's. They're able to change out everything except for the kernal/bootloader. And the RUU is just like an SBF for the DX so I should be alright with that.

Many thanks and hope you get out of the traffic soon! puahahaha

Good news from unrevoked. This was their latest tweet today.

"We tested out a version of Unrevoked Forever that works on EVO HBOOT 2.02 devices. Just needs an .apk wrapper with some UI now."

*shrug* I'm a skeptic of one-clicks.

Each to there own.

Compared to the mess you have to go through now on the 2.02, anything is an improvement.

Most likely. Let's see if they share the source, and if it clears up the issues associated with 2.02 lately. I'll pass judgement then.

Any news on this recently? I know it's only been 2 days and I would check if I knew where to look! I got royally PWNED in not reviewing these "new hboot method" threads before trying the other methods...

I havent heard anything yet, but the manual method has been improved upon lately. Might wanna get root access while ya can :p

Easiest way is to follow them on twitter.com/unrevoked

Some one want to help a noob

I just bought my evo and I is the more diffulcult phone to root.
phone info is
android 2.2
software 3.30.651.3
hardware 0004
h boot 2.02.0000
radio 2.15.00.09.01

Is there a one click method or a video to help me ? I have never rooted a phone. I have been checking it out for three days and reading as many post as I can. The only reason I need to root is for the wireless tethering so I can drop the 29.99 sprint charge. I also didnt want to lose 4g , camera or radio if at all possible
