Audio briefly cutting out when recording with external mic

[Android Central Question]

I have a Galaxy S10+ and am having an issue with the built in Audio Recorder app. I capture video using a Go Pro and use a small external mic connected to my phone with a TRRS adapter. The issue is that when recording, it keeps losing sound(like its being muted) for a split second, sporatically throughout the recording. I'm trying to narrow it down to if it is something with the phone or the hardware I'm using. I have tried disabling the "OK Google" function and even turned the phone in airplane mode and it doesn't help.
Any help would be great!

Plug the mic into a recorder other than the phone (you'll probably have to make up some kind of plug adapter) and see if it still cuts out.

If not, try a different mic, or try using the mic on a phone call. You have to narrow it down to where it's happening - we can't, we don't have the phone and the mic.
