Audio cut-out issues on GB ROMs

I am now on my second GB ROM (first Pete's, now CM7) and am having the same problem with both. Using any audio app (WinAmp, Amazon Cloud Player, Beyondpod), the audio will cut out when I open and run other apps. Sometimes it takes longer to happen, and WinAmp lasts longer, but eventually when enough loads up, the audio is dumped. This never happened with a Froyo ROM. Also, it does better right after a reboot, then gets worse as it goes along.

It sounds like a RAM issue, with audio being something tossed overboard when it gets low, but it seems like a very quick trigger and, again, it never happened on Froyo even though my RAM levels seem about the same.

Does anyone else have this problem? Can anyone test for me, running music in the background while loading up some other apps, like Facebook, Twitter, a game, etc.

OK, I think I found the solution. A kind soul over at the CM forums pointed me to a special setting in the CM preferences where it will dump assets as needed to maintain performance in what you are doing. I have only tested it a bit, and am not sure what unintended consequences it may have, but for now it seems to have solved the problem!
